Location: Texas | My husband is going to put up 2 light poles for my riding area & I would appreciate any info that you could share about what type of lights you bought, how tall the poles are, etc. The goal is to have enough light to see and be able to work horses, but it doesn't have to be real bright. I am on a budget. Thanks so much! |

Location: Woodstown, NJ | The last time we had lights in one of our arenas, we happened to have really tall pine trees nearby and my husband just put some floodlights up there. We're building a new arena now. I will probably look around for telephone poles because this arena is big. I hear you can get them from the phone company cheap or free. The old ones they don't want anymore. I wonder how to get them home when they're that tall? If the arena is not that big, you don't have to go so high. I used to ride at night in a round pen and I would use a utility/construction light on a stand. They're red. It gave me plenty of light for the round pen. |

Location: Texas | Thanks I have done the same with the utility light out at the round pen. I'm just so sick of these short days :( I guess we will try a couple if lights that we bought at Lowe's & see how it works out. |

| One thing my hubb found recently - there are LED area lights now! For me that is the difference between having the 4 poles we've had for years and years hanging out along the driveway for eternity and being able to get them up in the arena. Our issue was always the electric to run the lights. With LED's we have the capacity on our panel to get it done with no heavy up. I don't have a link for the lights but I bet it's no harder than googling 'LED area lights.' |

| I have 6 of these. Depending on what your expectations are, you'll probably be disappointed in anything less than 1500 watt, and any number less than 6. Mine are 22' high. You'll have a hard shadow, the lower on a pole uou go. Also with 6, virtually eliminate the possibility of a shadow. My arena is 120' x 240'. I have seperate lighting at my roping boxes. |

This is what we tried and we love it! At first we tried a tripod area light from Home Depot, and it lit the area enough to ride but it would get SO hot. You could smell the dust burning off of it, and I was always afraid I'd burn myself. Then one day we noticed the led lights so we tried one and fell in love! It is so bright and stays cool to the touch. Now we have an arena light for less than $200 instead of the thousands it was going to cost to get a pole set and electric run out there. I just run an extension cord and voila! |

Location: Texas | Thanks for the responses. I'm going to do some research into the LED lights. The size of my night time lighted riding area will be determined by our budget and the ability of my husband and son to handle setting the poles. Hubby is a good diy electrician, so he can wire them. I'm so excited I can't hardly wait for lights. |
