| I am having a horse shipped from a warmer part of the country to our up and down weather here in Arkansas in two weeks. There's no telling what type of weather they will go through on the trip at this time of year. It could be sunny and warm, or below freezing??? This horse has more of a summer coat right now (naturally without blanketing or lights) and I'm concerned that even with an enclosed trailer, if the temps fall on the trip it may be difficult on the horse.
Suggestions on the best blanket for shipping in cooler/cold weather?

Location: Oklahoma | I wouldn't blanket in the trailer. Too many what if's... If you're not hauling the horse yourself... you don't know what kind of ventilation the trailer will have. If they don't have stock slats or open windows, a blanketed horse can over heat and get sick. Your best bet is to leave the horse be. It will develop somewhat of a coat with colder weather. If you are concerned, you can always get a light fill/med fill winter blanket once the horse arrives. |

| I've had more horses overheat in a trailer than anything else. |

Location: Up and over to the right | Horses are much happier being cold than warm, they can tolerate cold, they have hair…
Give him a hay bag, open all of the windows and let him be, he's not a clipped show horse going from FL to NY or anything. |
