this mare I ride has terrible shouldering issues. first off, she is sound, fit, muscled, used different bits with her, tried hacks, tried practically everything as to tuning her and slow work...had trainers help, she is a very strong willed horse. she will absolutely wrap a barrel on the occasional perfect run and smoke the 1d. going slow you can push her past and "hold her off" but running hard if you "push her past" she goes to the fence, if you rate her she shoulders super hard no matter if she's "picked up" "moved over" or moved out with leg pressure. ANY ideas or help????

Lots of counter arching. Work on LIFTING those shoulders and do it to an extreme. You are making it worse by "holding her off" that just lets her dive harder. Go back to slow work and work the barrels as individual turns instead of a pattern. With out a video it is really hard to give an exact reason or exercise to "fix" it. Is it every barrel or one in particular

I had the same exact issue on my mare. I went to a Molly Powell clinic, and with some slow work and the addition of her quick turn bit, it was fixed!! Not to say that I won't knock from time to time, but when I do, it's rider error, not the horse. Check out that bit. For me, it worked wonders. I can tell when I'm not competing in it. If you can seek her help, I'd highly recommend that also! She's awesome!

Try using your outside leg in her ribs/body. If you push your elbow into your right ribcage you will see it lifts your left shoulder. The same applies for a horse if they are body broke. Also either change hands right after you turn your 1st barrel or wait till your at the second barrel. You can sometimes que a horse to get ready to soon for t h e 2nd barrel by changing your hands halfway between barrels.

Square exercises.....shoulders drop due to hind end and ribs not being engaged, square exercises help you to feel and know how their feet should lie when they are straight and engaged. My favorite exercise.....
