One of my biggest issues is time, I think that's the same with all of us. I work a full time job plus ride 3 horses and lunge 1 youngster every day. With my schedule, lets just say that my house is not very organized/clean. It's not filthy dirty, but it could use some help. I was wondering what other people that ride horses all the time ,and are away at barrel races/rodeos about every weekend, do to help keep their house clean? I don't have any kids, besides 2 dogs, and I have guy roommates (who don't clean but they do pick up after themselves). I just need help coming up with a system to keep the house in better shape. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Yep, I pay my mom to come clean when it gets bad. She doesn't charge me a ton, but it helps her out to have some extra cash, since she is retired.

Maybe if you had her come in once every 2 weeks, that helps more than you think. When the kids were little and I was working and riding the pick up horses for the guys, I had a lady come every 2 weeks and it really helped. It doesn't sound like much but it really helped. Kind of a mental thing too. You know she is coming so you try to pick up a little better so she doesn't think you're a total pig. Might jump start the guys into helping a little, well a girl can dream.

I have a lady that comes and does big cleaning for me like 4-5 times a year... it's not that I don't have the time.... it's just that I absolutely hate cleaning.  I usually call her before we have a big get together.

I use times for my washer/dryer and always load my dishwasher at night when it's full and just unload the next time I cook.  Those timers save me from having to dedicate a day just to get everything done.

During the warmer months my house usually gets put to the back burner.  When we finally can't stand it anymore the SO and I take about 3 hours one day and do a deep clean.  He is gone most of the week so it is usually easy for me to maintain.

Winter time the house is usually cleaner.  What I usually do is I take a few minutes each night before I head to bed clean things up or do it right before I head out the door in the morning.

I have a lady come every two weeks. I also do a load of laundry each night so it doesn't pile up. Meal prep on weekends so less mess during the week. If I go upstairs, I take stuff that needs to go up. When I go down, same thing. I also spend 15 minutes/day picking things up. My oldest son is 5 and I set the timer for 5 minutes for him to help me. I make a game out of it for him.

Also....with two kids, full-time job, trying to finish my doctorate, and four horses, some things slide. And at the end of the day, my house is the easiest thing to let slide a bit.

I only have her come when I need her (perks of family:)). She just helps me with my big stuff when we are gone several weekends in a row. Usually this time of year, I'll have a day to knock it out, but spring, summer, and fall are killers for us. If she can just vacuum, dust, iron, clean bathrooms, windows, etc... I can keep up with laundry, dishes, and the basics doing little by little before I sit down and crash!

Guys are more than capable of cleaning a house....they just aren't asked or expected to do it. I would love a maid...I have looked into a few times and they aren't overly expensesive. They can get a lot done in an hour and most I've seen charge 10-15 an hour.

My boyfriend does all the cleaning and cooking lol since he doesn't ride, but it's the deep cleaning that I need done, and a maid would be great, I'll have to start searching around for a dependent maid that won't steal since I don't know any in town.

Hubby works out of town 7-9 months out of the year. Two kids 4 and 6. And a horse business. My house is usually a wreak. However I will watch hoarding tv show about once a week. Lol That usually motivates me to clean. That and coffee and cleaning when the kids are asleep
Eta I would love a maid!! Def. need to look into that

I hate having a dirty house. Normally Sunday's are my day to get things cleaned up for the week.

I have some indoor animals, so I try to keep up on the hair....I like to try to vaccuum and shampoo once a week.

Being a teacher I am able to easily keep the house clean in the summer. I normally get caught up on breaks, and in the winter time I have snow days if I fall behind.

Husband helps also, but he did just get a promotion and works M-F 12 hours a day. He is working crazy hours and has to be in by 4 in the morning. So I have taken over more of the housework. :-)

However, with that being said I feel like I am always battling a dirty house.

I've got one student that cleans in exchange for lessons. BEST thing I have ever done!!

For those that pay someone what do you normally pay and for how much time?

I have a male roommate and he is fairly clean but we have hired a cleaning lady to come weekly. I do not have the time to do it at all. I work 50 + hours a week and then have 7 or more horses. we pay $60.00/week. She does everything. It is great.

TEAM WORK!!!
I have a full time job, an almost 10yo little girl. 3 barrel horses, 1 rope horse,4 dogs & couldn't do it without my husband. Since we both work, when we get off he will exercise the ones who don't need tuning & ill ride/exercise the ones who do need the tuning. I do alot of ponying lol. we are usually in the house cooking dinner by 7:30p. We have a lot of team work going on to make it into bed by 9-9:30 on a work week night!
