For the past several months, I've been running Streak with a really loose tiedown as he was having trouble staying in his left turns, but in watching yesterday's video, I don't think he ever hit it. The tiedowns I have are barely big enough to fit him so I'd love to take it off but not at the expense of losing time on our runs if he needs it. Any thoughts?
(Yes I know our first barrel needs work.....we are trying to get it figured out and I can't wait until the light bulb comes on with the right turn)

Thanks for watching. I'm excited to take the tiedown off next time we run.
Streak is the big OTT horse that turnlane rescued a couple years ago and rehabbed. He's been my buddy since last February and we have done just about everything under the sun on him (except rope.....I was warned that he wasn't into ropes LOL) already. So far his resume includes being a lesson horse, a barrel horse, my grand entry horse at rodeos, a rodeo queen's borrowed horse during URA Finals last November, Clifford's gate buddy at rodeos, my youngest brother's 4-H show horse, a parade horse and the mount of choice for my brother & sister-in-law's oldest nephew when he comes down to ride.

Take it off. Make a run. If everything goes to crap, put it back on.

I agree, to me it looked like he was still hitting it when you checked him going to the first, gong into the and coming out of the second and maybe a little going into the third. However the video was pretty dark on my screen and I couldn't see that clearly.

Basically you'll never know until you try, and I would try a few times, not just once. He might make a really awful run the first time because he is expecting that to balance on. If he does and you really don't want to run him with one, burn another entry and try again. Obviously you can train at home without it but in my experience they are angels sent from heaven at home.

Last time I was running my gelding, he was coming along really nice and I was thinking about taking it off of him. I kept it on him, but if he warmed up nice, I just didn't hook the tie down strap. That way, it was there if I wanted it last minute.

OK, I just wasn't sure. The strap is super super loose but the noseband is a tad tight. I've been doing an exhibition on him because we don't get to do much if any pattern work with the ground so frozen, so I can try losing it during an exhibition. Funny thing is the first time I put it on him, he completely stopped when he hit it. I busted up laughing at the second barrel because it was like he didn't notice it while loping circles, doing rollbacks, etc. before the run but boy did he notice it during a run.
That barn is terrible for videos.....everything is dark in there. Ugh.
