This talk of specific pedigrees and personalities got me thinking. How far back do you think breeding effects personality.

For example, I have 2 Gdaughters of Special Effort. 1 is 10yo, 1 is 8mo old. I am OK with the 10yos personality. Don't love it, don't hate it. I bought the 8mo old a while back and these horses act a lot alike. Enough alike that I don't think I'll keep the younger one. She isn't terrible, we just but heads about 30% of the time and to me it's not worth us not getting along. They do not live even near each other on the place so I don't think that is it. I did not raise the 10yo. Just a thought :)

ETA another cool point about the above situation is they are Gdaughters on their Dams side.

I have two Nonstop Jet horses one is a own son and one is a granddaughter. They are both super laid back and have a ton of heart. Would get another in a second

For personality, I don't look any farther then sire and dam.

For athletism I will look 2 generations only reason X factor gene has shown some stallions make better broodmare sires then sires themselves.
