My shoer says they are a waste of money and wont last but a couple weeks. Anyone have success with them? My colt keeps throwing shoes dinking around in his pen and he has thin walls and soles. Thanks!

Ive had real good success with glue on shoes. Depends on what route you take. I got a real good education during my apprenticeship after shoeing school. Man i worked for shod a ton of jumpers and halter horses so we used a lot of glue. I have since put them on barrel horses at my barn. Not the shoes that are designed for glue but regular aluminum shoes. Taking the proper steps is key and understanding you material. Ive had barrel horses in my barn wear those shoes six weeks and when time to shoe they took some work to get off. You will be surprised after a couple of applications how much the foot changes. Just be prepared to spend a little.

They didn't work for my guy running barrels. You have to get the foot super clean and some strong glue. Not sure what brand we had but they were thicker than the normal shoes, maybe 1/2" to 1" thick.

Sigafoo shoes worked very well for me on a couple of bad footed horses we had. I just saw a new brand the other day that  I would not hesitate to try. If I come across the link to the video- I will post it.

They work really well and will stay on if they are put on right. Most farriers skimp on prep so they fall off to early.

I had no problem keeping the Sigafoos on my mare for a 5 week set.  They are kind of expensive but they were worth it in my situation.

Sigafoos work very well if your farrier knows what he is doing.

I have had awesome luck with them.  The one time they didn't last was when we didn't take into consideration the very warm, humid weather and the glue cured a little too fast for the speed we were working, they still lasted 3-4 weeks.

The last set we pulled off my mare were aluminum PLR race shoes and they were hard to get off at 8 weeks.  I don't baby them, my mare goes out in the mud and I ride her in a super wet pasture.  We get lots of rain down here and I honestly think the glue on shoes keep her feet healthy better than nail on shoes.

The only problem with gluing on aluminum shoes is that the glue locks the heels in to the shoe so the heels do not expand at all on impact, we just put my mare in Flexx Sport shoes to avoid any problems.

The shoes run about $35 a pair and the glue is about $18 for enough to put on 2 shoes.  I am thankful that my husband and I can put them on because to have a farrier glue shoes on around here runs $100-200 a foot plus the cost of the shoes.  I understand why, because the foot and shoe prep is a PITA then you have to hold the foot while the glue cures.  It probably takes us about an hour to glue front shoes on my mare.

There are some pretty good videos on Youtube that go through the foot and shoe prep, I think one is on the Easycare website.  As long as you don't skip steps in the prep process, glue on shoes will stay on just fine.

Thanks! DO they have like a site of "Trained" farriers? Mine is an awesome farrier and shoes some of the best going down the road but I just don't think that he does a lot of them. Just wondering if someone in my area that does them all the time might be good.

When I got out of farrier school, Glue On shoes were just coming onto the market. We were told about them but we never got to see them applied.

Was just going to post on your other thread and tell you glue shoes worked awesome for my mare. Her hinds - same thing thin walled thin soled TB feet. She was hotnailed both hinds last summer and had to have both shoes pulled. My farrier put glue on her - not truly the "glue on shoes" but he almost made a shoe out of the hoof pak type glue (sorry I don't know exactly what it is called, it is the same horrible smelling stuff that comes in two tubes - when mixed together it becomes hot glue - usually used to pad up one with heel pain) - he literally "created a shoe" by coating the area where the shoe would go naturally in the glue. When dried, he filed off all the edges so it sat like a normal shoe. Those suckers stayed on for 6 weeks~ and I didn't have a problem with traction. Just had to make sure the sole was really clean prior to running so she could still grab onto the dirt with her feet.
