Who has experience in trading a saddle in different states? Do you just take their word that they shipped and then you ship? or is there a safer way?

I was looking at trading with an individual once.

We had agreed on a dollar value which I would send to her and she would send to me via PayPal (so we could use a credit card.). That way we were each protected and only out the PayPal fee and cc interest for a week or so until we got the saddle/money cleared etc.

I wouldn't trade without that protection or if I had a friend in the area asking them to act as a broker.

It was very nerve wracking!! She and I both shipped UPS, she took a picture of the recipt as I did, she actually went to UPS before I did. Even waiting for it was quite the deal, Im just glad I didnt get 20 some pounds of rocks shipped to me. I will not do it again even though both of us got what we wanted.

That's what I was going to suggest--you each buy the other person's saddle for an agreed on price.

The only time I have traded was shipping only a few hours away to someone that had lots of "mutual friends". I figured if anything went sour, I would drive a couple hours and make a personal appearance.... It was still really nerve racking as the first tracking number they sent was for something going to NC and I live in MO. They had accidently posted the wrong one as they mailed 2 items that day, but I about had a heart attack.
