I had my mare leased to a friend that is a breeder last year the resulting filly is really nice and I am thinking of breeding back for a Colt for myself. The mare is just a stitch under 16H and the sire while only 15.1 seems to always throw bigger no matter what mare he's crossed on. The filly has been huge since birth and measures like she will be about her dams height. But I noticed she's often stocked up despite having a large turnout off the stall. It is very muddy in this area this type of year so maybe she's not moving around too much. Is it a concern that she's stocking up in the hind regularly? Does this just happen with fast growing foals? I'm wondering if knowing that it will likely be a fast growing foal if I do re breed if I should consider certain things or feed programs to support a healthy growth pattern and not stress joints? TIA

I had a mare like that - got her when she was 2 and unless she got out every day and rode as well as turned out she'd stock up... soon as i walked her around 10 mins she was good as new.. if its in the joint area - i'd add msm to her feed... its cheap easy fix.. i feed it to all of my colts (and all my grown horses too) once they hit age 1 til whenever i feel they dont need it - it helps w/fast growers not getting joint issues from inflammation... and did i mention its cheap lol. make sure you get the purest form - and anywhere from 10k -20k units per day its like a scoop for the Animed one... or i switched to a pelleted one recently b/c a few like to pick their feed out and leave the powder in the bucket - and its not as strong but i feed just a little more but this way i know they are getting it.. and it helps w/main/tail/hoof growth.

I had one having some issues with this. She had some mineral imbalances. You might look into Rejuvinaide by progressive nutrition.

Thank you! This one isn't mine but I will definitely keep that in mind for the future if mine does have the same issue. Hopefully it won't though!
