| So, I'm currently riding in a Teskey's roper...because that's what I have. Sometimes a Corriente ranch cutter. These were fine on my easy to ride gelding. Now that I switched my mare from reining to barrels, it's a different story. She is very catty and extremely responsive to how I ride. If I forget to SIT hard before the barrel, she will blow right by it. I need a barrel saddle that allows me to sit deep, and put my feet out in front of me easily. I naturally sit more upright but need to be more on my pockets on this horse, and the roping saddle really doesn't allow me to do that, since it's designed to help me get up out of my saddle to stand and rope a steer. I'll probably go with a used saddle for now. I've been considering a Pozzi. I know there have been a million saddle threads but I'd like to get more up to date input and input specific to my question. Thank you in advance! |

Location: on my horse | I have no real knowledge of Pozzi's but it sounds like you need something that has fairly forward hung fenders that allow your to really sit deep and get your feet out in front of you. I've had several Josey barrel saddles that I really feel are on point as far as the free swinging stirrups (and they are more affordable). When I need to sit deep and am having trouble doing so, I look at my seat size and design first. If your seat is too small you don't have much room to actually sit down because your saddle is getting in your way. Also, if you're used to riding a flatter seat like on your roper or cutter you might want to try something that's a little more built up in the front to help you sit and stay in your pocket.
Personally I like my flatter ground seat saddles I feel like when I have enough room to actually sit down properly I prefer to ride in the "center" of my saddle and don't need as much help. |

Location: North Dakota | Yeah I would look into a Marth Josey or Martin Barrel Racer as they have more forward hung stirrups and deep seats. Personally I HATE forward hung stirrups so those are the only 2 I know of off the top of my head. |

Location: Alberta, Canada | Pozzi's have very free moving stirrups and sit you deep. They are very easy to get up and out of (this surprised me when I rode mine the first time). I won't buy anything other than a double j since I switched over to them in the fall. My lynn mckenzie is also a similar ride but sits you a bit more upright than the pozzi. |

| I second the josey, what you are wanting, the josey will provide far better then any other saddle out there |

| After just getting done with the new saddle search, I was on the search for the same, something I could get a sat deep, and be held when I sat. I found that I loved a Coats, I tried a Lazy L, and a Three Forks Saddlery Merrill. I went with a Merrill, which was not easy, I came across more Coats used than I did Merrill's, but I got lucky and came across one that was a great price and just what I was looking for. I love it! I would love to have a Coat's as well. I'm not big into a Pozzi, I feel like the seat is very flat across the seat and doesn't give a "pocket" to get sit in to. One thing I do like about Coat's more than my Merrill was the swing of the stirrups, they were very free swinging but kept me in the correct position, the Merrill's are a little bit more position forward without the free-ness. But good luck on your search! |

| Thank you all so much this is definitely helping. I have only ridden in Coats ropers, but the quality is stunning. Loved them. Besides that I have no experience in any barrel saddles really. So I almost don't know what I'm looking for. I've ridding in some friends saddles but that was a while back. I'm going to have to start asking people at local barrel races if I can sit in their saddles haha. |

Do it! That's how I figured out what felt good to me and then I took it a step further and started asking them if I could set them on my horses |

My Merrill is tethered, so if that was taken off, you would get a lot more swing. I have no problem getting my foot back where I need it to move the hip tho. It actually feels freer than my Crown C. |

Location: Missouri | I love the way a Martin sits. It makes me sick to sell the one I have, but I just need a smaller seat.
I have found the Tod Slone's to ride similar but one of them wasn't as deep of seated and the other has a super nice deep seat. |
