When my fiancé was in his accident last month the hospital took him off work. Work had him file for medical leave bc he only had 2 vacation days.

First we had a terrible time getting the hospital to sign the required paperwork. Finally, we got the paperwork tKen care of...mailed it out to Kentucky on the 2nd, it was due on the 9th.

We we got a reply on the 20th saying it was denied bc they didn't receive the paperwork until the 18th. So it took only 2 days to get back to us but our letter took 16 days?! The letter we received was typed on the 15th. So why did they type our letter before they received our paperwork?! He has tried numerous times to contact them and every time he calls they say the person handling our claim isn't there and won't return our calls.

This is so frustrating. He could potentially lose his job over this :

any advice? He is going to talk to someone at his job about it today to see if they can help.

I think he needs to go talk to whoever is in charge of HR at his work.  And keep calling the other place until you get answers.

I believe that he may have said he was going to talk to HR...this is so frustrating. I'm about sick over this.

Nope it's not. Other people he works with say that this company always gives trouble with accepting medical leave and you almost always have to fight to get them to accept it.

I was thinking the same thing... I know when I mail in bills they accept it even if it arrives late as long as the envelope is dated before the due date of the bill...

That's what I'm saying but they are saying it didn't come until that date and that's what matters...I guess. I would think as long as it was sent in time it would be fine. But nope and it seems like they are lying.

Call them. He can file a "discrimination" complaint due to disability even if it is short term. I handle these calls on a daily basis, normally it leads to mediation...and alot of the complaintants I speak with are able to keep their jobs.

This! Don't trust regular mail to get there on time, no matter how far in advance you send it. If it is extrememly important and there's a deadline, send it certified so that someone has to sign for it and you KNOW that it was received.

I feel for you and I would definitely be talking to someone about it...but our mail service IS that bad.

We had a certified letter going 30 miles away from where I live here in Montana and it ended up in Grand Rapids, MI. It took it 2 weeks to get where it was going. Then, we received a bill two weeks late in the mail, and 3 days later than it was due. We could tell by the date on the invoice when it "should" have gotten here and when it did. The post office is now saying that if you don't send something express mail that they won't guarantee it to get to where it is going in a certain time frame...it is really sad.

However, seeing that they dated their letter the 15th and "say" they didn't receive your's until the 18th is quite fishy. We had a credit card company apply our payment always a day later than it was due...to collect past due payment fees. But when it happened every month, we figured them out and told them what's what. But I have no advice other than try to talk to someone locally...sometimes you can get more done that way. Best of luck.

I'm not sure what part of KY you sent the letter too, but mail has been postponed for about 18k people just in the Louisville area due to the bad weather we had last week. UPS hasn't ran either. Things are starting to be delivered to my area... finally. I still have a package that I sent on the 16th that hasn't been delivered, and I had to go pick up a package at USPS because they wouldn't deliver up my driveway.

I'm not sure where we sent it to right now. But still, I can't control the weather. It's not our fault it didn't get there in time. Who knows...maybe it did and they are lying. It just all seems really fishy to me.
