Location: North Dakota | My horse has big shoulders, is moderately wide, moderate withers, and his back isn't extremely curvy or flat, kinda in the middle. I've been talking to Meleta about her new tree but due to a few issues there's a good chance I won't be able to order one of hers for a while. So I may need something to hold me over in the meantime. Any suggestions on a saddle for a horse like him that I can find under $1800 (new or used) and that has a good re-sale market?

Location: Where I am happiest | I saw on one of the facebook tack pages a origional bob marshall treeless saddle in great shape for $1100. People either love them or hate them but a treeless might be a option to tide you over. |

Location: North Dakota | I like treeless saddles and my sister's Circle Y JBN fits him pretty well, BUT I'm over 200lbs so I don't feel a treeless offers enough protection for his back, unfortunately. I wonder if a CSI pad would help w/ that though...

Location: Montana | I've had really good luck with a Courts or Circle Y fitting my wide mare, but she doesn't have a lot of withers. Isn't mutton withered by any means, but not as high as some. Her back is kind of...err...non-descript too, LOL. I currently ride her in a Courts and it fits her well...however I feel like it throws me forward, but I'm learning to compensate. :) |

Location: North Dakota | Yeah the biggest thing is his darn shoulders. I had a Marlene Mcrae that bridged in that gap behind them and just dug in at the top of his shoulders. |

You want to look for something that has a tree that is a Full Quarter Horse Bars. Not a semi, not a regular - you need a full.
People get so hung up on the gullet size, width, etc. that they forget to think about the flare of the bars of the tree. JMO..........
Good luck! |

Oooh I see that one. There was another one for just a bit more too. I don't know much about the Lynn Mckenzies. The one I found is a LM Special with a 7" gullet. I wonder if that would work for him. |

Location: Where I am happiest | Maybe try to negotiate with the seller if you pay for the saddle, if you can have 1 day after it arrives to make sure it fits. If it doesnt you want to ship it back and get a refund. ? |

Location: North Dakota | There are plenty of Lynn McKenzie saddles in our area. Marcella Johnson is a dealer and could hook you up with someone that you could try one. |
