OKAY, So I've done more research on saddle fit in the past 48 hours than maybe possibly healthy, but I till can not find how to measure a horse for the proper gullet width for a horse... I've read up on a proper fitting saddle with cause them to fill out more and that you often have to go up another size after you get them filling out. But I have no idea where to start... Can someone please tell me how you determine the gullet width your horse needs or is it trail and error?

I've got $$$$$ resting on where you've gotten this information..... LOL
If you'll go to some other sites you'll find that the angle of the bars is critical to proper saddle fit. (I don't recommend getting your information from mfg websites or endorsees).

I agree and disagree with you comment.

Each saddle company designs their saddles differently and have a different selling point to get people to purchase their saddle.

I suggest finding a saddle you like, then finding one similar to fit your horse.

Ie crown c philosophy is to sit behind the shoulder, this is why they have wide gullets, they are also more accommodating on building a tree to fit your horse ie regular versus flat tree. My mutton withered horse nothing would work, I had her fitted by Brian and Tracy now I finally have a saddle that fits her.

Cactus makes Charmayne James saddles or made, these saddles people say fit flatter and wider horses, due to the flare in the bars at the gullet.

Lynn Mackenzie with double j has three different saddle types, the regular built for more thoroughbred horses, the nueva to fit more wide flat backed horses.

Brittany pozzi with double j also has different trees

Tod Sloan has three different trees as well one to fit a more race type, one to fit a ranch type, and one to fit a wide flat backed horse.

It also comes down to price, what you want to spend once you find this out, you can call manufacturers and ask their opinion, send pictures, get their opinion.

And so far yes it all comes down to feel, I borrowed barrel saddles from other barrel racers to try out, this way it took the guess work out.

I have heard triple creek will send out the bare tree for you to fit on your horse

Martin has a free loaner program so when you buy your saddle you know what to get.

Over the years I have depended greatly on the manufacturers to educate me on their product so I could make an informed decision if their product would work for me, or fit my horse.

If you want more info feel free to message me, and I can try and direct you to what might work

Saddle fit is not just about gullet width. You have to take in to account bar shape, angle, countour, etc.
