Location: North Dakota | how bad?? My standard protocol is to scrub the crap out of it daily, cold hose the wound as much as possible and keep something on it (I prefer furazone or triple antibiotic ointment) to keep the wound soft. IMO proud flesh comes on when the crusts and the scabs are allowed to grow back into the wound. If the proud flesh is pretty prominent, you probably should have a vet remove it. |

| how bad is it, where is it and is it growing higher than the wound? Granulated tissue has to form in a deep wound in order for it to heal, as long as it isn't protruding out I wouldn't panic about it. My most recent severe cut I used GenOne spray from the vet. Cheap, it's Gentamicin Sulfate with Betamethasone Valerate, the Gentamicin keeps the proud flesh away and the Betamethasone helps with the inflammation. It is for dogs and cats but it did amazing work on my fillies laceration. As for scrubbing it, I would use a wash cloth but nothing harsher than that, you don't want to scrub the new tissue away. |

| Meat tenderizer works, just sprinkle it on and allow it to air dry
My favourite is preparation H, as soon as I see proud flesh, I apply and it disappears. |

| An old cowboy thing that works is sulper mixed with vaseline. And PLENTY of water hydro! |

| Where is it located? Moisture from long grass is usually the culprit. I like underwoods. But the meat tenderizer is good in a pinch. |

Location: ND | I'm still fighting to get the last little bit of this wound to close but for the majority of it I used daily cold hosing & wrapped with a product called Wound Wonder. When I would get proud flesh I used Proud Off.

This and sugardine (paste of Betadine and Sugar) worked great for me. |

Location: Somewhere between S@% stirrer and Saint | I scrub it. Rinse with hydrogen peroxide and wipe off.Squirt that blue wonder powder on the wound. I mix Ferosine and depomedrol anti inflammatory injectable together and apply to the wound. Cover with sterile gaze and wrap. I leave it for about a week and do it again. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | Equi-aids is awesome!! I will always have a jar of that on hand at all times. My mare cut her leg late last summer. I cold hosed it 20 minutes a day, carefully bandaged it and used every concoction I could find. Got my hands on Equi-aids and the proud flesh is gone! |

Location: Ohio | My horse had a very bad hock wound last year. About 2 weeks after the wound, I started using PF Wonder Salve. Never had any proud flesh after starting this. Stopped wrapping it about three weeks after the initial injury. Just used the salve.
It healed beautifully.
These pictures are about three weeks apart. Before and after using the salve.

| Trypzyme . Also goes by another name (different brand). Works great! Trypzyme. No wrapping (it leaves a protective coating on it). Wash daily with warm water, removing all scab material. When it starts bleeding a LOT when cleaned, it means you are getting to the close to new skin being formed and then I clean and respray every other day or so.
Probably the same type of protocol as other products mentioned here.
