Anyone know of any good trainers (barrels or reg riding) in NC? Eastern NC would be wonderful but whole state is fine. Moving come summer/fall and would like to find a good trainer once we get down there.
TIA

I live an hour south of Raleigh, so we're right in the middle of things.

Johnny Woodard is in Laurel Hill (btwn Rockingham and Lumberton) and he does both breaking and barrel training. He has broke 4 or 5 colts for us. His barrel training style is unique and not everyone can ride after him but he really will put a good handle on one and they will get rode. Highly reccomended.

Leslie Ramsdell of Valentine Farm in Dunn (up 95 from Lumberton) does both as well. All of her horses are very broke and have a nice handle and go on to make nice, easy to ride horses. Very easy to ride behind.

Brandon Walden of Higher Ground Perf Horses is in Wingate (near Charlotte). He breaks and trains cutting horses and puts handles on a lot of Leslie Willis' horses. I have a colt going to him next week.

HM Performance Horses (Heath & Heather Minor) are in Mt. Airy (more to the west near the VA line) and train reining horses. Haven't had anything ridden by him but have heard good things.

There's a few that I know of that would be good choices!!

I agree that Leslie is very easy to ride behind. She has ran horses at all different levels and she also teaches clinics and gives lessons so she communicates well also. (Not all trainers can do that I've learned!)

Ashlyn Lewis in Chocowinity puts a very nice handle on her horses. She has a more reining style of training but her horses are very nice. Two Rivers Performance Horses is her operation.

Tanner Shelton is in Stokes outside of Greenville. He's had a good deal of success with several horses and is making a pretty good name for himself in the futurity world. He has openings for outside horses from time to time.

There are plenty of other 'trainers'. But these are the main names that come to my mind that I would send one to.

Chad Grigg did an awesome job on my horse. He is in Earl, NC which is right outside of Shelby also Kaycee MacGibbon also is really good with working with barrel horses or rope horses. She is in Crouse NC which is on the other side of Cherryville.
