| Hi Everyone,
I'm considering breeding my Appendix Quarter Horse mare in the near future and was wondering if you had any suggestions of Stallions/bloodlines that might make a cool cross? I would like to breed for a barrel racing prospect. My mare is extremely catty and flexible. She does best on long patterns where she has room to gain some speed, she received more of the Thoroughbred influence then QH. It would be nice to breed her to something with a little more quick action/speed. I was thinking maybe a bigger boned horse like a Firewater Flit bred Stallion or maybe even a Dash Ta Fame would work. Here is her pedigree- she is QH cowbred/TB racing bred: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/vals+quarter |

Do you want something that does better in a larger pen like her? or something that does more cross over? What about temperament? Is resale an issue? |

| Thanks! She is around 15.2 hands, something around there would be good. I'm 5'8 so I don't mind a bit of height! I would like to have a little more crossover, something that can handle both types of arenas. We have a lot of small and large pens in my area. She has a good head on her shoulders, she can be hot sometimes but is easy to calm down, she does tend to be spooky. I think she would still do well with a stallion that is a little bit hotter in temperament. She is great on the road, never an issue with hauling or being tied to the trailer all day. She is really smart almost to smart for her own good so she gets bored easily, just have to keep her on her toes. I've owned her since she was a yearling. She does have thin thoroughbredy legs so something with more bone structure is a must.
I might sell the baby later on, but would like it to be a futurity prospect.
A Blazin Jetolina baby would be awesome! I was thinking that that might be a fun cross. I do love On a Gator to. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | Okay, take a look at Firewater ta Fame. He's good on bone structure and is also a nice mix of the sunfrost yet running lines. He's got good structure and is plenty tall.
On a Gator is another one to consider or Lions Share of Fame.
I forgot to ask on budget but all of those are in similar price ranges.
Blazin Jetolenas are small. Even if your mare is 15.2, your baby is more likely to be 14.3 or 15 hh. That said they are catty. I also think he has a bit less frame than you are wanting (all that said size of bone has very little to do with toughness. Exercise and feeding regimen are much more important for strong bones).
Streaking ta Fame, Fly the Red Eye, and Shawne Bug Leo also have plenty of size and bone. Alive N Firen might be another.
Most of these will give you a baby about the same size as your mare but should add some more turn. |

She meant me I think. I pulled a doozy and said Sunfrost when I meant Firewater Flit. Head on desk. I was thinking about that post while I was typing. |

Last I saw it was $1500 to increase to $2500 in 2016. I'd imagine she is getting a lot of calls and may want to select certain mares ??? maybe, totally guessing.... he is one fine individual.....that's all I really know. |

Ruined, smuined....I'm going to have to beg, barter, trade her some cats and indentured servitude when I'm ready to breed to him.....just like the rest of you. |

| Thanks everyone! I will take a look at those. Streaking Ta Fame would be awesome, I'm gonna have to start saving up for him for a few years tho! I saw him on TV and I'm pretty sure I was drooling throughout the entire run! Do you think a Dr. Nick Bar would make a good cross? I really like As Good As Nick Gets. My gelding is by Fire On Bug, and he has a great structure and mind, so I was thinking that might be a cool cross too. |
