| Arizona barrel racers!!!! Where do you run May-August??? I can hardly find any runs! I understand they are often at night, but I counted only 12 runs through these months. The NBHA page had the most runs and I found a few scattered. Are there not any runs all summer, or am I just not looking in the right places? I am coming from MN where there are runs nearly every day all summer long... I understand the heat is an issue here. Thank you!! |

When you take the winter off from the cold in MN. They take the summer off from the heat in Az. Have you ever been in Az. in the summer? 113 at midnight is not fun. Let alone during the day with the sun up. |

 How freakish is that?

Location: Oregon | It's too freaking hot. We had a winter place in AZ and one year I had the bright idea that I was going to live there all year. I stayed til May, tried to run in slack at 9am one morning and was dripping in sweat, then saw a rattlesnake and came back to Oregon. |

| That's kind of what I was thinking! How is running in the "fall or winter?" When does the season usually run? |

October through April. After that we all melt into puddles until we coagulate into human beings again. |

Oh my gosh, it's huge. HUGE!! Everybody converges on Az in the winter. Buckeye has races just about every day of the week and some of the biggest futurities in the nation are 1 weekend after another all in a row there. 300 futurity horses, every top futurity trainer you only read about in barrel horse news and on TV is there. Plus the opens that will run till 2 or 3 in the morning trying to get them all run. quiet day on monday, then another race tuesday, another wednesday, then the futurity's take over again on thursday with time onlys, opens, ect. Then you also have all the rodeo's going on also. There is no better place to be in the winter then AZ. Sunny, 70 degree's, while the rest of the country is in blizzards and frozen tundra. |

| I've lived in AZ a long time. In the summer, you ride early in the day or if you work, ride after dark. Yes it stays warm but you get used to it. Dunn's arena has barrel racing all summer long on Wednesday nights. Some producers move to cooler weather but it is still within driving distance. We have snakes but so do a lot of other places. I'd rather put up with 3 to 4 months of hot weather and have great weather the rest of the year. Shade, electrolytes and fresh water and the horses are fine. Humans.......it's mind over matter. |

Location: White Mountains of AZ | In the White mountains there are races every weekend. We don't get near as hot of Phoenix. PM me for more info. We are actually having a race this weekend ( if we don't get rained/snowed out ). |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | I need to see how far you are from Flagstaff. I need somewhere to run during the Summer, and we have nothing. Dewey and Chino/Cottonwood are too inconsistent.
Are the races typically saturday mornings or evenings? I ask because my hubbs works 6 days a week and mornings are hard to make. |

How far I am from Flag? about 1 1/2 hours or so... right now during the cooler weather, in the morning. Like this weekends race is supposed to start around 11 I think. During summer, starting may or June they go into mostly night races. |

| Thank you everyone for the input! I'd be willing to drive a few hours. I'm located in the Scottsdale area! Please PM me links to websites or schedules of any places that have summer runs. While we're on the topic of hot weather.... Does anyone have a bleeder? Do they handle the heat okay if there's no humidity? |
