| I am trying to figure out how exactly to word or do this. We have a Open and Youth class...its a NBHA district. But I have people wanting me to do something for the ones still on lead line or just beginning and walk/trot the pattern but may lope home...???? I was thinking 10 and under because of the ones asking. I know it wont count toward NBHA points but they are just wanting them to be able to play too. But the ones trotting can they still roll time to youth? I have no children that run just trying to make it fair for everyone. What rules do other organizations have for races like these? Thanks!! |

| Our NBHA District would always do a PeeWee class, it's 10 and under I believe and they could be led, or walk/trot/lope on their own, whichever they were more comfortable with. There was always just a little payout for 1st place etc, and at the year end awards everyone would pitch in and get something little for the kids that competed. They were not allowed to carry the time over to youth or open.

| Our NBHA District also calls it the PeeWee class. We had a 10 year old boy enter it a few times last year. I wonder if we should call it something else so that we don't discourage the kids that are a little older but still only trotting and slow loping. It will be interesting to see what other responses that you get.
Our PeeWee class is pretty simple. The entry fee is $2 and each kid gets $1 for running. The $1 motivated my son although he likes the payout of the Youth Class better. When his regular horse got hurt, I talked him into riding a different horse. The first time, he would only enter the PeeWee class because he wanted to be able to trot and not feel like he had to lope.

Location: Arkansas | Some organizations have the rule that Leadline and/or PeeWee is only open to those not entered in any other class. I like this, as it seems to keep the class more of a "True Beginner" class |

| ^^^ that's how we do our races... Peewee is lead line, walk, trot, lope. Not allowed to enter any other class, and if we know the arena there is a time cut off(anything over X time will not be able to enter the peewees again). $10 entry with $5 payback to each kid and if it's a series we will give them feed buckets full of goodies(for both horse and kid) at the end of the series. The kids get excited about getting the $5 back, they think they won it, and they really get excited over the buckets. |

Location: Back in MT BABY!!! | I ran a PeeWees with my NBHA runs and had no age limit...but if you entered the PeeWee's you couldn't enter any of the other events. (this would keep out the young one on mom's horse that would out run the rest by 7 seconds ) I also broke the payout down so everyone got something back as long as they had a qualified pattern. The fastest still got the most money but they all got a check. |

Location: Iowa | open age on the novice class. There are some older youth just starting that are only comfortable at a trot. No rollover. Can go in the youth class during the season, but are out of novice once they do. Ours all get the same award so its not competitive. |

We have a 7& under class.
We also have a 7 & under limit for our PeeWee class. My stepdaughter was bummed, I met her when she was 7 and she did it a few times but now she can't. But she isn't advanced enough to run against the youth class and make it worthwhile. So we forgo the NBHA races and do the local gymkhanas instead where she can still enter the LFC class and be competitive. |

Location: Montana | Around here we have PeeWee (usually 7 & under) and they can be either leadline or by themselves. Of course, no pay out, but the kids usually get a candy bar or something like that. |

Location: Missouri | We usually do a peewee class 10&under they cannot enter the youth. Normally a $5 entry fee but I always give it all back to them in $1's! They can then spend it at the food shack! Lol usually have several little ones that want to come get thier "mail"!
You can lead them, they can walk or trot or what ever. |
