I have no great story because I don't know how he did it but vet said usuallycaused from getting g straddle legged. Like running and slips down r slides. Vet said 4 months stall rest. Nothing else he can have a run out of his stall but not big area. No other treatment. Anyone have advice or anything extra you did. I was thinking BOT magnetic blanket or something. Vet doesn't want scar tissue to build. Ultrasound showed like a honeycomb spit with bruising.

My horse hurt his hamstring at a barrel racing clinic. He could not put any weight on it. He was on stall rest for 6 weeks with bute.

My vet doesnt want him on bute. Said on the bute he will feel like he is ok and could mess around and hurt himself worse. This way ifhe tries to trot around or get to wanting to play he will feel it like enough pain to make him say ouch that hurts. Lol. Mine must be worse cause he said 4 months. This horse is so laid back and a pig that he will stand and never move if he has hay in front of him 24 7. He lives to eat and sleep. So maybe he wint be too nuts on that much stall rest.

Yep, we have a mare did the same thing. We ended up giving her a year off. 6 months on stall with a small run, then we put her out to pasture. She's fine now and back to work with no problems.

If you have access to a Theraplate or laser , it will speed up the healing. Also Structural Build and Painaway in feed.

Thanks for the replies. I do want to look into some alternative treatments other than just stall rest. Vet doesnt want him on any pain meds. He doesnt seem to be in any pain. He walks and trots like nothings wrong. Its only in the lope that you could tell something was wrong.

^^ This.  Years and years ago, I returned my injured gelding to work too soon, and paid the consequences.

Yes, 8 months off. Small pen for a few months and let her heal. Friends horse had the same thing. Same protocol. Both returned to full training. Time is your best friend.

Nice to hear good outcomes. Vet seems optimistic. Time will tell. Thanks again.
