What is your best treatment of thrush? I have one that is between mild and severe is somewhat lame from it i know to keep clean and dry as much as possible. I am treating it but wondering how everyone else deals with this Thanks

You may have to take to the vet and have it burned out, as thrush is very hard to kill if it gets under the frog.

I've had really good luck in the past with the thrushpak from vettec. You can apply them yourself. I wouldn't let anyone burn my horses frogs out. Jmo.

I take a syringe and put betadine and water and stick it in area or hole where  thrush is at up to 5 times a day..I have also used some bacteria  cream and rubbed in it....I also use thrushbuster
some people add small amount of bleach but i know it can burn out live tissue..
Ive only had one hind foot where it affected thankfully..

I ended up with a bad case of Thrush last spring. I stalled my mare for what seemed like a month. Her case of Thrush did get under the frog. I used Thrushbuster religiously, and then did a round of Uniprim. I saw drastic improvements from the Uniprim. I also put water babies on her ankle to keep down the inflammation and dry skin down. Sounds crazy I know, but the sunscreen worked like a charm. AFter it was healed her entire frog just started peeling off from the new growth. I hope yours it not that bad

I had a bad case a year ago and I would clean the area out with hydrogen peroxide and then put the ToMorrow paste covered with cotton balls. I would also clean his hooves by doing a soak in Epsom salts and then applying the ToMorrow paste.

I used Koppertox for about two weeks before I started the ToMorrow paste, but didn't see very much improvement.

Talked to a vet about this yesterday.  they highly recommended sticking cotton balls in after the medication.  Otherwise as soon as they go out to pasture they fill back up with mud and the medicine is gone.   I will squirt iodine in then place a cotton ball over the crack, squirt more iodine till the ball is saturated and use my hoof pick to stuff it as deep as I can.

White Lightning has worked great for us.

ETA I do use hoof picks and push cotton balls in there and put the medicine on that.

I haven't had one with severe thrush, but if I have one with thrush starting to form, I rotate Thrushbuster with Absorbine's thrush treatment.

I have a horse that I have battled severe thrush on until I added a mineral mix that balances copper and zinc, among others. That did the trick and no more battles. If horses are deficient in copper/zinc they will have problems combatting thrush.

What mineral mix do you use? I have a gelding that I constantly treat. I have used all the products mentioned. The best so far is Pete's goo with powder no thrush on top then cotton balls. Nothing has worked long term.
