I have an 11 year old gelding I'm taking to the vet today with suspected high ring bone. He has an old scar, and ossification, not very big, but he's been experiencing someo mild lameness recently possbily due to past farrier issues, he was out of balance and contracted.fired my farrier and got a new one I absolutely love! I pulled his shoes in November gave him 3 1/2 months off. Trying to go barefoot. Started light riding and I could tell something wasn't quite right figured he it could just be sensitive soles. Hoof test negative. he is currently is sound on concrete on the streight, grade 1 in a large circle on concrete at the lunge(takes 2-3 bad steps and warms out of it), grade 2 in a very small circle. Going to get a full work up, blocks , and x rays. Please share your experiences! Treatments. Ect.

Yes, and a great farrier that understands the issue is key to keeping your horse comfortable.  My recommendations are:
Previcox for inflammation and pain control
PHT MagnaCu Tendon Wraps to increase circulation
Soft Ride Boots for Hauling
Inject as needed to keep him comfortable
and minimize the concussion on his legs when you're riding him

You may need to inject that joint

Have a 15 yr old gelding i've had since he was a weanling.. he developed the high ringbone about age 6 or 7... he has stayed sound.. they'll do better once it fuses. High ringbone has a much better prognosis than low.. shoeing and corrective shoeing can make a big difference as well.. vet should have some good recommendations based on your particular horses feet/angles and the severity/amt of ringbone and where its located (high vs low).

Ask about shockwave treatment.  Several years ago, they were having good success with HIGH ringbone using shockwave.  Worth a shot.

I am having the same symptoms with my gelding, he has been lame since last april... had the xrays done, blocked, coffin joint injections.. no difference.. so, if you find out what it is.. let me know as the vet came back as .. possible navicular as showing classic signs.. so diagnosed as heel pain but nothing else other than a waste of money and no further ahead. And, I cant afford an mri right now

Thought it was high ring bone because of an old injury, scar and bony formation at that area .
took x rays, found low articulating ringbone in the p2 and p3 that is causing the soreness. :/
Catching it early Was favorable and hopefully at the moment manageable, if he responds well. but it's obviously degenerative.
not a good prognosis, vet is going to talk with some of her colleges on course of treatment options.
Ie injecting, shockwave, corrective shoeing. To see If we can lengthen his career or call it quits.
