What type of exercises do you use specifically for strengthening / hardening of the tendons and legs?
I've got a horse that stamina-wise he's good. He's out every night on a hilly pasture and plays a lot so he doesn't get winded easily and he recovers quickly. But I wonder about how conditioned his tenddons, etc are and I'm wanting to focus on that more to avoid injury.

My vet posted an article that working your horse in deep ground will strength tendons and also work in small circles that mimic a barrel turn to condition muscles and tendons, he said just a few circles, don't over do it.

Conditioning is do confusing sometimes. I have been told the opposite - harder ground conditions the tendons/ligaments and deep ground is good for muscles and wind. Also I read if your horse has longer Pasternak stay away from deep ground and if your horse has steeper/short pasterns stay away from hard ground. The reasons were deep ground is harder on the soft tissue and the harder ground was harder on joints. Like I said it can be confusing

Pony: long trot and lope BOTH leads
(depends on the horse but anywhere from 2-3 miles
)
Walker: use when cleaning stalls at a walk and trot
Strengthening: walk up and down hills do NOT let them trot walking is hard and builds muscle
Ride to tune: bending up, flexing, breezing out, and pattern slow work

I think if you can do a little bit of everything it will do nothing buy help. As said don't over due anything, but if you can walk/trot/lope in deep and hard ground, hills, long trail rides, breezing, hot walker, maybe a little cow work, over poles etc. The best horses I have owned I did everything with.
