| I'm currently feeding Acti Flex 4000 for joints. I copy/pasted the specs at the bottom.
Along with grass/alfalfa hay and pasture turnout, my gelding is getting SafeChoice Perform, 3/4 cup whole flaxseed daily, Equi-Sure (10cc weekly and before every run) and the Acti Flex 4000. My question here is- how much MSM and glucosamine is suggested? I'm thinking I need to add more MSM However, he is the ulcer prone, high energy type so I'm cautious to add it in case it would disrupt his stomach even more.
Then on the other hand you have people who don't even feed grain at all. Those horses aren't getting any of this so maybe mine is just fine the way I have it? And theres some that add 6 or 7 supplements, vit./minerals, probios etc, etc to their horses grain and it makes me wonder- How in the world do you know how all those extras are reacting with each other when you mix them??
I just want to keep mine feeling his very best because I will be hauling to rodeos A LOT this summer. He is 11 with no existing issues so most things I do for him are just preventative. Heres the details for Acti Flex 4000:
Guaranteed Analysis Per oz.
Glucosamine Sulfate 8,000 mg.
Chondroitin Sulfate 4,000 mg.
MSM 3,000 mg.
Ester C (Ascorbic Acid) 1,000 mg.
Yucca 150 mg.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) 125 mg.

MSM has been reported to alleviate allergies, arthritis, GI upset, musculoskeletal pain, and to boost the immune system. It also possesses antimicrobial effects against organisms such as Giardia lamblia , Trichomonas vaginalis , and some fungi. The suggested mechanism is that MSM may bind to surface receptor sites, blocking the interaction of parasite and host. It should not cause any problems for an ulcer horse |

I'm trying to cut back. I think I am going to quit feeding extra vitamins/minerals too. Just actiflex and F1 noni for mine! |

| Man... I did a little research on this when I was looking for a joint supplement and the reason I went with the Actiflex was because it had the recommended amounts that others didn't at the price I wanted to pay. I would have had to of fed twice the amount of some other brands to reach the levels of MSM, Glucosamine, and Chondroitin Sulfate that would actually make a difference. I wish I would have saved that info because now I can't remember.... I'll look for it. I do know that Actiflex had more than or right at the recommended levels.

Location: In the Hills of Texas | Just an FYI. Some horses, especially ulcer prone horses, can't handle MSM. I know for myself...It made me sick to my stomach. Never put the two together until I experimented putting and taking my horse off of it. He would pick at his food and was crabby with his ears back while he was trying to eat and would do it with both the feedings with MSM and without. After watching him I went off MSM and my stomach aches stopped. |

I agree- I am on a budget as well and the Acti Flex is great because of how affordable it is...about 120 days for $83. And then you have the free quart that comes with! Just figuring out exactly what they need is tough. Has anyone fed raw apple cider vinegar? I read it's supposed to be good for all around health and aid w/ ulcers, just curious because it's another affordable option to consider. |
