Straw in the spring and summer and felt in the fall and winter.

I flip the hat band down in the back and it makes it fit tighter during a run. Haven't lost one yet. Be sure to get a hat maker/shaper to fit one to your head otherwise you will lose them every time. If they're too snug they hurt your head, too loose and you have to pad them so much during a run you look funny in pictures.

Just my opinion. Good luck.

I wear a 6 5/8 - anybody ELSE have a pin-head like THIS? When I see one my size, I snatch it up. I'd love to have a custom but I'm too much of a tight-wad.

I personally 100% prefer Felt hats. I know they are hot in the summer.. but what are you wearing them for.. 60 seconds? You wont die of heat stroke from wearing a felt had for a minute. LOL (no offence to anyone who thinks they are silly in the summer) BUT I find them to fit much better and stay on my head much easier, when you find the correct fit (round, oval etc) and size, you shouldnt need bobby pins or a weenie strap (aka stampede strap) *haha* to hold your hat on. Finding a good hat shaper is hard too.. sadly. :-( Depending on your area..
