Location: Idaho | Im curious about how much jockeys charge per month. What is included in the fee (riding, feed, entry fees, maintenance, etc)? What kind of split is made with the winnings? Anyone out there who does it or anyone who has hired someone to ride for them, Id love to hear from you! Thanks! |

Location: Texas | Right now I have a gal riding for me. She is a very good friend and this is the agreement we came to. The horse stays at my place and I keep him in shape and when we can we meet during week for her to tune on him. As far as jackpots go....I pay EF and if she makes a check I subtract the EF from earning and then pay her 25% of whatever is left over. If she pays EF the pretty much same deal. Subtract EF and then she gets 25% of earnings. As far as Buckles etc. I get first buckle and we will alternate each from there. |

I am NOT criticizing this policy, just curious...if your horse/rider doesn't get a check, she gets $0.00 for riding? |

Location: North Dakota | I charge $350/month (owner supplies any grain or supplements but I provide hay, stall, pasture, water, etc) as long as I don't have to do a ton of tuning or training. The horse needs to be finished and just legged up. If I have the horse in on consignment to sell then I do some tuning to help get the horse sold but if I have to do quite a bit then there are training fees. Owner pays all fees, split fuel, etc. If money is made then the owner gets the entry fee back and we split the rest 50/50. Any awards won go to the owner. |
