So my husband and I are starting a new business while I am also still working my regular full time job. So far I have only had time to ride my horses twice this year and the business isn't even up and running yet! My question is.. how do you all do it? have enough time for work, personal work, house duties, and horses? I'm debating on if I should breed my two barrel mares this year.... If so, I better make a decision quick! But I hate for them to just sit there and not be doing anything! HELP!!

Wow! Twins too?! I really don't think I could handle all that!

What are you doing with your horses in the meantime?

well i'm not starting a business... well i guess technically i am since i just started doing embroidery on the side for extra money lol but that is a home based thing and i control how busy it gets so i don't have to be 100% dedicated to that. i actually just bought a new horse a couple of months ago so i can start running again. i ride him when i can slip away for a few minutes which is usually only about once a week but he isn't one that needs to be ridden constantly. i made sure i bought an easy keeper that didn't require a lot of high maintenance so i knew that he would fit into my life style. my husband team ropes and practices (in the back yard) at least once a week and i either stay in with the kids or bring them out there to watch depending on the weather. honestly, idk how we do it but so far we're making it work

Is there a good friend or a professional close by that you trust to ride? I am currently running one of my close friend's horses while she's swamped with nursing school. I ride during the school year, and she'll be able to pick back up right where she left off and run him this summer. I would say do not breed this year, because you don't know where your business will be by the time they are ready to foal.
Good luck with your new business, I hope it all works out! Where do you live?

We had/have our own business... I wasn't able to go much in the beginning. Between work, kids, home, school activities etc, there was NO spare time. I can remember going to super WalMart at midnight to do my shopping so I could ride before dark. Crazy stuff we do.

Remember, the horses will always be there. Get your business going so you can be retired st 50 and do the things you never got to when you were first starting out. :)

It's hard. We have a flooring business but I recently started a vintage decor and painted furniture business with an eye on the future because my husband can't do flooring forever. We're in our fifties. It has taken a long time to get going because I am so short on time. And now that the nice weather is here, I want to ride. We have a small farm so there's a lot to do. Every day I feel frustrated that I didn't do enough for my new business. I have a shop on Etsy now (www.MadGirlRetro.Etsy.com) but we are also building our own website and hope to build a workshop/showroom on our property this summer so I can sell from here instead of shipping everything.  I can't get it all done. I just have to keep chipping away at it. I am trying to get more organized. I am trying to avoid wasting time on social activities and obligations I don't really care about. I am trying to cut out Facebook. I just got on here now for some relaxation, I finally just sat down, and it's almost midnight. But you know what? All of it is fun.

What kind of business are you doing? I can't promise I'll be back tomorrow to see your answer! Depends on how busy I am!

Not a problem now but when we were younger with little ones I would get up give the baby his bottle, change and put back to sleep then when hubby was in the shower & getting ready for work I would go out and ride.  I find that if there is a will there is a way, You just have to decide how bad you want it.

Plumbing and Electrical... my husband is licensed in both so he gets to do the work and when I get home at night I get to do the books and invoicing.

I was thinking about breeding my girls cuz then I wouldn't feel so bad for them sitting out in the pasture doing nothing while I'm so busy right now (at least they'd have a bun in the oven!)... But how long after they foal is it till you can start riding them again and running?
