I am looking for the good and the bad on going to Josey Jr World.  Wondering about the set up, ground, stalls, rv and just the experience in general.  Trying to decide if this is something we want to do.  I would appreciate any feed back.
Thanks in advance!

Β Every kid should experience the Josey Jr World at least one time. Camper hook ups are scattered throughout the property. One year we were by the outdoor patch in the trees. Stalls are scattered everywhere too. Some are permenant, some are pipe pens under a shed and others are port a stalls under big tents. They have a big, sandy outdoor patch with barrels set up. There's also a covered arena that sets right behind the outdoor arena for warm up. They have a holding pen for the next set to run that sets between the covered arena and the main arena. You can trail ride on the property. They do have a creepy old cementary way back in the woods, lol! They have a parade of states and dinner after the first go where they give out Best Dressed awards and other awards. It's just a great experience.

I LOVE the creepy old cemetery! I always take the kids who have never been before for a trail ride down there and somehow, I always "forget" to tell them that it is there. lol

I'm interested in the experience too. I'd love to take my daughter to run out there in the near future.

What's the temperature usually like?  Do we need fans?

Wonderful experience. There are so many entries that a huge tent ie brought in with portable stalls. You better get an RV parking space early as I don't know how many they have. I live fairly close and just drive in everyday (to the Reunion). The competition is tough. Bring rain gear. This EL NINO thing has turned E TX into a rain forest and the entire ground is solid mud plus it rains almost every day. I will day that rain does not affect the arena. They pack it with a roller at every big drag. It does not get deep. The concession stand has good food but is expensive and a long wait so you might bring sandwich or snack stuff. There is always a lot of excitement going on. One night there is a bar b que or fish dinner (catered). Can't remember which, both are good and fairly inexpensive.

In Marshall, there are a lot of good places to eat.

Chili's
Appleby's
Cajun Tex--local
Golden Corral
Blue Frog-- local
up the road at Caddo Lake are a couple of really really good fish restaurants. One is Big Pines Lodge.

These are just a FEW.
Bring extra bucks for the western store--laughing

I work 4 miles down the road.

Β

Β No. You won't need a fan. More like a snorkel and water wings. The wetter that ground is, the better it holds. Standing water in that pen is usually a good thing.

It will always rain during the Jr. World but makes the ground GREAT!   Bring mudboots  We have parked everywhere out there and we only live 20 minutes from there but a group of us stay togther and have a good time.  If you wanted RV you might call now to reserve it otherwise they might not have any.  We use generator for our trailer and panels to make pens.  It will got hot during the day and cool off at night.  A golf cart, four wheeler, scooter or bicycle for the  walk is a plus.  Leave your chairs by arena each day to reserve your good seat for the next day.

It is a great experience, but it seems like your horse either loves or hates the ground. Mine was the latter back in the day. I always hoped it was pouring down rain when I ran because it made the ground not so tight. The way they keep packing it you can hear their feet slap the ground and my horse just did not like it. There were tornado warnings a few times, but they never hit the ranch. Everyone just parks around the trees and you are in the woods. Fun event that every kid should experience while they can.

I've never been to a clinic at Josey's so can't compete at Reunion and the year I found out about that you can compete through your 19th year I turned 20 so I have never competed myself, but have gone and watched the last 5 or so years at Reunion and JR. World. It's a really fun place to go. Everyone has spring fever, the weather is usually great and the ground is always REALLY well worked. Stalls and RV hook ups are everywhere, there are horses and trailers everywhere its a bit crazy with so many people there, but its so worth it and so much fun. Ground is always good, the wetter the better. There is a map on their website of the grounds there is the main arena where the race is with some stands, behind it is a warm up arena, there is another area a little bit away from the main arena that has practice barrels, there is also a round pen. Stalls and RV hook ups go fast so my suggestion is if you want one then get one quick. The quieter RV spots are up on the hill, but you will be in the sun. The ones lower are near more of the noise from the loud speaker and is busier with the four wheelers and ATVs and just general traffic of people moving around. In all it is really fun and well worth it.

It is the best ground I have EVER ran in! No slip at all, they make it standing water and it runs GREAT! Great people, nice facilities, we went to a clinic there last year, but since we are from Indiana, we aren't making the trip back down for youth or the reunion, simply for price reasons.

I agree that it is an experience every kid should be able to experience at least once. I would go to this over the NBHA youth world in a heartbeat. Josey's is a magical place for barrel racers young and old.

We have done the reunion the last couple of years, but we may do both this year because that is what our daughter said she wanted to do with her last check she won.

I've been to about 4 of the reunions and it has always rained but for whatever reason, it doesn't affect how much fun it can be.

I'm going to Junior World for the first time this year as well, and was wondering about how many riders they run per hour? Is it about the same as NBHA Youth World with 50/hour or what? Just curious so I can know around what time I will be running for family & friends back home watching the webcast.
