Location: The best kept secret in TX | I have applied for early admissions to go back to college for the Fall... Pending I get accepted, I haven't been in a classroom in years. I'm super nervous! I have a baby due July 26, and I've just recently opened up an Etsy shop. Oh yeah, and I work over 40 Hours each week....
Not to mention the want and need to get my Gelding back into shape to run on the weekends during the Fall...
Anyone else feeling the stress of have to do's and need to do's and want to do's?? I know I sure am... How are you dealing with stress? Essential oils, calming medications, music?

Location: Mountains of VA | I'm assuming you mean you have a human baby due in July? If so, your priorities will change as soon as you deliver your baby. Not fair to short change yourself or you child.
My daughter had her first child last summer not expecting or even thinking about the challenges of a new baby, work, riding, etc.
Children grow up fast, enjoy them while you can.

Location: Texas | Well... we just opened a drive through convenience store and we aren't at a point we can hire anyone yet so when the store is open I am here. I work 13+ hour days 6 days a week. I also have my 1 year old with me all day and I make quilts when I have down time at the store. 10 year old gets out of school and comes to the store also. Keeping him busy in a tiny building is enough to make me crazy... I usually just put him to work lol. On Sundays I run around like a mad woman trying to do the things I couldn't do during the week. I am beat. I have no remedies for stress but I need one! lol
Every now and then if my husband is off work I leave him with the store and the kids and I go shopping. Granted it is for more fabric for quilts, but it at least lets me get away.
Good luck in college and congrats on the baby!

Location: MI | I would say that I'm in the trenches right now as well. Last May I had my 4th baby, a sweet baby girl. In Fall I started a program for my masters, taking 2 courses a semester. I also work 20 hours a week at a rehab hospital an hour away from the college, am a GA 10 hours a week (helps with the school cost), and this semester I am also teaching a course as well. In addition to the home, farm, kids, etc.
I really, really enjoy being back in an academic environment. It had been about 12 years, but it's been fun.
However, it's also been messy. Messy on my marriage (things that had to be dealt with anyway, but it's a lot of added stress), and there is a lot of mommy guilt. This semester I've had some panic attacks - I've never had them before, they suck.
So I don't know if I'm the best to answer how to stay sane, as I haven't been the best at it so far!! I've found that going back to school, I tend to be more of an overachiever/perfectionist than I was before. Part of that is also that I work for the university now, so I feel like I should be doing a really good job. A few of the things I did last semester and am now trying to start again:
--make sure that I get my devotion time in, at least a few times a week.
--make sure that I set aside time to ride. Last semester I signed up for dressage lessons on my 4yo every other week - that really helped. However, this semester my daughter took them over (proud of her :), so I signed up for a barrel clinic at the end of the semester. That has helped with getting me outside to ride, even when I'm tired, but I have had to be realistic too and give myself some grace when it comes to my expectations with the horses.
I'm very, very thankful to have a strong support system of my parents and siblings to help out. So. very. thankful. I wouldn't make it without them!
Best of luck returning to school, I really hope it goes well for you!! Congrats on your baby, they're the best! :)

| I'm almost 50, work way too many hours a week and took 16 hours this semester. If I can do it anyone can. I am not riding much, but that is more due to being old and fat as well as disheartened than my schedule.. | |
