I was wondering if a very well bred 4 year old is worth more if she continues to be futurity eligible for her 5 year old year or is it better to start entering her now? She is paid in full to Future Fortunes but not currently paid into any futurities for next year. She is running an awesome pattern, just curious for resale value if people would want her more if she was still futurity eligible? The mare has been bought and trained for resale. Thank you!

It hurts her not to be paid into OKC or Ft smith.

By this point she is what she is....meaning her value is gone as a futurity prospect goes. Futurity prospects are really considered 2yr olds and early into the year 4 yr olds. At this point she is what she is...

Now if your up north/mid west in a square state it might be different, but I'm from the east coast and thats how most ppl see their colts.

The people that play the game will pass on her they are looking for 3yr olds that a loping a nice set.

The people wanting to break into the game might go for her and ease into going to some late ones with her.

I think it depends... if she's ready to enter and is still legitimately on track for futurities, where you can realistically enter her when you want, then yes. But I see a lot of people who advertise a 4 or 5 YO as futurity eligible just because they are 4 or 5.. but they are so behind in their training it would take a miracle to actually realistically get that horse ready in time.

I had a 4YO filly listed last year who I still called futurity eligible.. but as time went on and I went back to school and she quit getting hauled, I removed "futurity eligible" from her ad.. because, she was never going to get there with the time that was left. I sold her as a 5YO and mentioned that she hadn't been entered anywhere but she wasn't going to a futurity home anyway.
