foal question

I have a two day old foal that had oranish/yellow thin pasty stools her first day. She is doing great, nursing well, and playing. My question is how do I get the poop out of her tail!?! I have been keeping desitin on her bum to keep it from getting burned.

Don't worry about it and leave it alone IMO. It'll come out on its own. She'll get loose poop again when the mare goes into heat.

I have found that Dr. Bonners castle soap. available at health food stores. mixed with warm water gets baby poop gone very easily and it is not harsh. It is coconut oil, almond oil, etc

Thank You! This is my first foal and I didn't think to expect that their poop would be so pasty!

I wouldn't put anything on it, not even desitin...Let momma take care of baby. If foal is healthy, eating and doesn't have the runs to the point of being like water, then less is more IMO

Thanks! I pretty smitten with her! Her dam is a granddaughter of Sticks and Stones and her sire is a painted Leo stud.
