Speed Index Question
What is the difference between a speed index and a speed figure? If a horse has a Speed Figure of 112, is there anyway to tell what that horse's SI would be?

I think that speed figure shows the horse's performance in previous races and takes into consideration track conditions and some other things. Used mainly for betting purposes. A speed index is more of a permanent record of the horse's performance and is based on times that have been run at a particular track. In other words the horses speed index at one track could be higher for a certain distance thtn at another track I do not think you can convert them or really have a need to convert them.

Speed index is scientifically arrived at. Speed figure or "Beyer Numbers" are someones opinion. Racing forms use speed figures. AQHA assigns a Speed Index
(SI
) if they are a registered AQHA horse. The SI doesn't come out on the racing form. It's only available through the AQHA office/reports.

Speed Figure is mainly used for TB's. Speed Indexes are mainly used for QH's.
