I cant get my search to work. Plus Im asking for someone else. . . Older horse, sometimes gets sore. I recomended asking vet about Polyglycan...which I love but her vet recomended pentosan. A series of loadi g shots then regular maintenance. Can someone.tell me about Pentosan, what is it and do people use both?

Pentosan is good for horses that already have arthritis. Helps to keep the disease from progressing and treating the joint for arthritis. A great YouTube video is available. Just go to YouTube and search for adequan Vs. Pentosan. It compares the two in detail.

I was told a while ago that Pentosan should not be given to a bleeder, but maybe thats true for other joint meds, dont know. Ill watch the youtube on my desktop tomorrow, maybe search will work then too sometimes my phone doesnt do everything the desktop does.

I think it's a mild blood thinner, but that effect only lasts a few days from what I've been told.  My vet gives Pentosan to her racehorses.  Of course, they're running on Lasix anyway, but she hasn't had any problems from it.

Correct, the anticoagualant effects are only 24 hours. SO I wouldnt give it the day of a race or day before. COuple days should be fine.
