Has anyone ever tried dying their mohair products at home? Was it a success or a failure?

I have no personal experience but I met a girl at a race once who dyed hers purple with RIT dye from walmart.
I asked her where she got it from and she said it was just a CE White mohair cinch she had RIT dyed. Wish I knew if it worked out, faded, bled, etc.

If it is 100% mohair, you can actually dye it with Kool-Aid. There are instructions on YouTube or you can Google "dyeing wool with Kool-Aid."

Get permanent dye in the craft section at Wally World or any craft store
Won't bleed...just be careful or you'll have colored hands for a very long time.

Kool - Aid will dye wool and mohair really really well.  To set the dye, use extra table salt.  If it rubs or bleeds a bit, you can wash it off your horse pretty easily.

(My mom has been dyeing and spinning her own alpalca, mohair, and wool for years using Kool-Aid

ETA - Kool-Aid will also not make the fibers super hard or harsh feeling after the dye process - sometimes chemical dyes will be super harsh so if you use a Rit or something like it, be sure to check that it is for natural fibers and not synthetic.

Wow I never thought of using Kool Aid but that's certainly an idea I might want to try out!

LOL koolaid would work.

We used Koolaid on one of my friends white long-haired chihuaha's.. It turned him pink for weeks lol it was also her boyfriends dog. It was great to see him walking a pink dog around their apartment. Better yet it didn't hurt his coat or skin or anything. He was still soft as could be. Vet thought it was pretty funny too when he went in one day for a check up like that.
