i do know there have been two confirmed cases in Gordyville, IL One horse was treated successfully the other had to be euthenized. The cancelled the show there this weekend and was going to be disinfecting, etc. Hopefully the NBHA show on May 22-24 will be able to go forward...that's all I know

I hope they post pone the NBHA show in Gifford. The virus lives for 30 days when it is not exposed to the sun. Plus the virus is obviously in the area. What exposed horses will be coming to the show?

Looks like they have postponed the NBHA Great Lakes show. But there are several other shows going on in the area that I haven't heard if they will be postponing as well or not. I too am in the area but my horses haven't been off the property all year... was hoping to show in two weeks at Flickerwood. Anyone have any idea where all this has spread to or if anywhere is safe?

A big saddlebred/hackney barn south of Des Moines has lost 4. They were at the Springfest show at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. 2 days after that show ended the Mayflower QH show moved in. Not sure if/what sanitary procedures are used when cleaning up from one show to the next over there...

The outbreak stemmend from reiners in Frankfort, IL. One horse was euthanized and the other was treated successfully.
That barn attended a show at Gifford and one at C bar C. C bar C disenfects after every show, but Gifford does not- so not they are closed for 21 days to clean and disenfect the facility. They are rescheduling the NBHA Great Lakes show at Gifford as well as a few others that fall during the "closed" time period.

What can you disinfect with? I'd like to get some of my own to carry with me as a precaution!

C bar c uses symbiot ag, or something like that. They spray all the stalls and wash racks.
You can also use 70% bleach, though I'm it sure if that kills ehv1. Another option is novalsyn

We've got three separate barns in our area that attended gordyville. They're quarantined for 14 days. This is way too close to home for my liking! I'm not very comforted to know not all of these big venues disinfect after shows!

So I just read up on Stall Safe
http://absorbine.com/our-story/news-press-releases/new-from-absorbi...
It says it does cover the Bovine version but doesn't say it actually kills Equine Rhino...

On a vet site it said it's important to get rid of all material and then most disinfectants will kill it. I read it a few days ago. I'll see if I can find it.

EHV in the Environment
? Viable for about 7 days in
normal conditions
? May survive up to 1
month
? Clean equipment before
disinfecting
? EHV is sensitive to most
disinfectants
? Hand washing/sanitizer

C Bar C posted that in addition to disinfecting the stalls and wash racks, they were also going to do the arena fence, and all walls and walkways as well.
