Those of you with horses that have had ulcers, what signs did they exhibit especially if they didn't look bad (poor coat, ect)

Poor appetite was pretty much the only thing for my mare. She would get to a point that she wouldnt even touch her grain and would barely nibble at hay. I'd treat her and she'd be fine for awhile. I finally switched her from processed feeds to just beet pulp/alfalfa pellets and treated her one last time and she's been good ever since.

REALLY REALLY REALLY cinchy.   She also would pin her ears and nip when you touched her girth area with just your hand.  She never went off feed, has a slick hair coat, and looks great physically.

I had problems with cinching also, but alley problems - being over spooky. He looked great and kept weight on. Snuck up on me.

ear pinning, tail switching grouch when being cinched and mounted or even brushed. If you accidently stuck you toe in her side when mountig she'd throw a leg.and try and bite you. And when stressed she would go off feed. Very hard keeper. Poor girl was bad when we first got her.

I couldn't get mine to move off my leg. I would put my leg on and he would sulk up a bit and then sometimes he would throw a fit and dump me. He also had a sore lower bag and his abdomen was very tender. Had the massage therapist come out and she said it was like he had done 1,000 situps he was so sore. I told her that was funny because I was only doing walk trot on him because something was funny. I asked her what she thought about ulcers and she agreed that he probably should be treated for it. I did and it fixed him!

I had one that started refusing to load in the trailer, and his poop was runny and sour smelling. He also started having pretty bad alley issues. But looked great, ate great and no problems cinching.

slow shuffling trot, not wanting to lope, "bracey" & stiff in the neck and poll, cinchy. Eats normal but looses weight when ulcers are flaring . A week on omeprazole and she's 100% back to normal
