| Did you hurniate 15 disc or did you hurniate the 15th disc. And is that the 15th from top, if so that would be the disc between the thoracic spine 8 and 9 anyway to answer your question i know of several people who have had surgery and are doing great. If you follow the Drs orders and do what they say you will be fine. Good luck. |

I have been battling a ruptured disk at the L5-S1 for almost 3 years now. Surgery is elective for me. Sometimes I think about going ahead and doing it but others I think I can manage without it.
I can do anything I want. Just how much do I want to pay for it is the question. I still play full court basketball. I run 3 miles 3 times a week.
The more exersize and stretching I do the better if feels. My left foot does have a pretty much constant tingling. Rarely do I have to break out the strong pain meds but sometimes I do.
I've had many people tell me to have the surgery and it's the best thing they ever did. But every now and then I run across someone that says it was a mistake. I don't want to be that guy. |

Location: Southeastern Idaho | I herniated the same disc twice in my lower back, 4 years apart. Lots of rest to get past the initial pain, but physical therapy help me a ton. I do not want surgery unless I absolutely have too. I went with physical therapy, bought a new mattress for my bed (intellagel), joint supplement daily, and constantly work on keeping my core strong. So far so good - 8 years out. Good luck! Its a long painful road for sure.
Edited to say I was riding again fairly soon, once I started Physical Therapy. I learned exercises from them that I could do at home and riding actually helped.

Location: Missouri | I have two herniated discs needless to say it has impacted my life in a HUGE way. What I was told is there is no actual recovery except for surgery. What I try and do is exercise and work on flexibility and strengthening my core. About once a year I experience a flare up where I am in a horrible amount of pain and that is when I turn to ice and heat therapy, a back brace, and anti inflammatory drugs. Best thing to do is to remain active and healthy. Good luck. |

Location: /ARKANSAS | I don't know about any 15 disc injury! Is it thoracic? You have a C1 thru C8 also T1 Thru T14 and L1 thru L5 and SI joint... I herniated L 2,3,4,5 Had spinal stenosis, the spinal cord being pressed by a herniated disc. First thing people yell is surgery, no, I went to a chiro, then had a guy I trusted as a physical therapist examine me, then went to a massage therapist. The problem was I had no balance and my legs would not work as fast as I wanted, It took five months from discovery to riding again. I waited until feeling and balanced returned. I was blessed and lucky. But once you have surgery, there will be another, or you might be afraid of another injury, because it hurts so bad... |

I would try physio
I herniated c5-6 a little different, but physio gave me two pain free years
Traction was my best friend. And I believe this will be your best friend too
I also had the tens machine, and heat
You will need to experiments with heat and ice, as ice put me in agony, heat was my saviour.
I did have to have surgery on my vertebrae as when it flared up physio wasn't enough, I am still in recovery mode, I had a cage put in mine so I have a space between my vertebrates not bone on bone like some people
Also it can take up to 2 years for a disc to heal |

| My husband had back surgery over 5 years ago now. He had ruptured the disk at L4. He could do things but he paid for it when he did things. He tried three rounds of steroid injections and after the first one it never did a thing. What I can tell you about the surgery is this - do your homework and find a surgeon that SPECIALIZES in this. I don't know where you are located but check out Dr. Dirks in Coeur d'Alene, ID. It's what he does and he is very well known. My husband was off of work for a full 6 weeks, then part time for two and then even back full time there were things that he couldn't do - HEAVY lifting (and he is in construction) - for a while. It was a full 10 months before he was 100% again but he would say it was the best thing he ever did and he feels so much better than he did before the surgery. If you decide to have it done - do not rush rehab and do not rush getting back into the saddle, hard as it may be. You will be better for it in the long run. Good luck. |

Location: Decatur, Texas | I ruptured the same disc three months ago- I meet with the surgeon next week to see if that's an option for me. I had terrible, terrible sciatic pain and could barely walk. I did 5 week of Physical Therapy and it didn't help- I got worse. I tried an epidural and that only took my pain down 10% for a week. I also was put on pain meds, nerve pills and inflammation pills- that took it down maybe another 10%. I was icing and heating all day everyday in shifts and applying Ben Gay/Icy Hot patches every day. What finally took my pain down was getting a regular steroid injection. I am now pain free for the past 4 weeks and feel pretty good. If you have any pain, I'd ask your doctor about the regular steriod injection. |

| Little dangerous here, but worth a shot. Get you an old school life preserver. The old orange kind, that holds your head out of the water if your unconscious. Strap as much weight on your ankles, as you can and still float. I'm talking a lot. You might even have to stick a noodle under each arm. Then go out in water over your head. Then just make slow movements with your legs, kind like you are walking to get the mail. Taking little short steps, and slow. If your disk, has ruptured, but not shifted, this should either fix you up, or alleviate the majority of the pain. |

But after the 2nd I could not hardly lay down or sleep for 4 days had to take pain meds that I hate to sleep
So I did not get a shot this week seems much better
Taking it one day at a time. |
