Location: SW MO | Some of you may remember 2 yrs ago this fall my husband got stomped by a horse & hurt really bad.
A 1200 lb horse landed with 2 feet in his back. Many Broken ribs & extensive internal injuries. It didn't puncure his lung but mashed all the air out of it. It tore the muscle & nerves in his back.
Every since then that place knots up. He says it feels like a baseball is trying to crawl out of his back
Also about 3 or 4 times a day he has a muscle spasm. It like all the muscles in his body knot up for about 5 β 10 seconds.
He say itβs like full body stretch.
So my question to you all is what kind of daily things do you take for pain that isnβt medicine. What is good for muscle health and also for energy? Also of course his lung still isn't healed he now has trouble with shortness of breathe |

I had terrible muscle spasms in my back when I was in high school. I used a tens unit and the PT gave me exercises to do everyday. I also had to do certain ones before I rode. |

I've been studying on Magnesium supplementation lately and it's very interesting when related to our horses and human health. http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-998-magnesium.aspx?activeingredientid=998&activeingredientname=magnesium |

Location: Bandera, TX | Tumeric, and like Utah said PT. Try Airrosti. They work on the fascia. Or do a full series of rolfing. I've had a similiar incident, horse flipping in the gates landing on me. A barrel horse that took off in a hard slick alley did me in several years ago. They implanted a pain stimulator in me so that I could manage the pain. I had that removed when I was fighting fire. I'm a San Antonio FF. Then I did PT all the time. Got hurt a few years ago and changed my assignment. I got very lazy and didn't keep my core up. I'm paying for it! I've gotten relief from essential oils and going to Rolfing and Airrosti. Once they master the PRP and IRAP in backs I'll be standing in line. I get the knots and have a lacrosse ball with me at all times. I use a foam roller and stretch like no other. Try to use marjoram and turmeric essential oils or panaway on the bad spots. |

I work with two fire fighters that have started to use Mg+ on their OA and RA problems and both are getting relief! |

Location: Texas | I would highly suggest that he finds someone (chiro, massage therapist etc) who uses the Fascial Distortion Model and seek treatment. Getting the fascial portion of the unjust addressed will be crutial to his recovery and reduction of pain. Airrosti is similar to FDM and would be a good alternative if you can't find a provider near you. If be happy to answer any questions about the FDM, I use it on both my human and animal patients with great results. |

Location: the end of the rainbow | I know it's a drug and you said no drugs but he should really look into a prescription for Voltaren gel until he can manage the pain through nutrition or alternate therapies. I understand it doesn't work for everyone but I love the stuff

Location: Texas | I love the patches called Salonpas (get at pharmacy). I use them every day. Also I get adjusted by a Chiro regularly. |

Location: Mountains of VA | Trying to deal with everyday chronic pain is HARD. I may be the "odd man out" but getting relief from chronic/severe pain with prescription meds can be a life safer, mentally and physically. Alternative pain management can help but sometimes something stronger is needed.
When my back doesn't hurt and I can get a good night of sleep, I feel wonderful. My heating pad and a couple of shots of gin or moonshine works wonders. It is cheaper than anything else.............of course I mix the gin or moonshine with O.J. for my vit. C. :) |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | My husband had a similar injury. He was a bareback rider and got bucked off and the horses feet landed right on his lower back. PT, tins unit, chiro etc nothing helped, even horse doses of muscle relaxer did not help him. He is also a farrier and has to bent over all day. He finally had a procedure where they cauterize the nerves in his back. He said its the best he's felt in forever. No pain and back to working every day!! |
