Location: IL | I know we have many fine people on here that are involved in the medical field in some way shape or form so I'm really hoping someone has some advice for me. I've been hooked up to one of those portable heart monitors (Holter monitor?) and I am told I need to wear it for a month. They got me all hooked up and told me that I would need to change my electrode patches every three days. But the darn patches don't want to stick. I was advised to go about my usual routine so they could get accurate readings or what not and today after working out in my garden (it was quite warm today) all of my patches were coming loose/off. Seems like any time I sweat, even a little, they start coming off. Is there anything I can do or use to make the patches stick better? The kit came with 4 packages of 10 electrodes and I have 4 on me at all times. But at the rate I'm going to go through the them, 4 packages isn't going to be enough. Any skin safe adhesive or something that I can slap on them? Haha!
On a side note, any advice on riding with one of these monitors on? My doctor said that it was okay but so far it feel like it's going to be in the way which aggravates me. Lol I've been trying to think of ways to secure it so it's not bouncing around while I ride. Ugh! 29 days left with this thing.... |

I'll try the alcohol next time and see if it helps. I wish it was only for 4 days! 4 days I think I could manage. I'm on day 2 and already hate the thing and knowing I have to wear it until July 4th is awful lol. |

Haha! Thanks! I've dealt with a weird heart flutter for over 5 years now, ever since my mare stepped on the back of her front shoe in a run and flipped over. I'll get three or four really fast heart beats, then it's like it skips two, and then the next beat is really hard/strong. And when it happens it feels like someone knocked the wind out of me and if it lasts awhile I'll get dizzy. I ended up getting a new doctor when my little town clinic was bought out and she told me she was getting me in for a monitor ASAP. Ugh! Shoulda kept my mouth shut. Lol. But I'm going to try my best to be patient and deal with it as I am curious as to what it actually is that happens. We shall see. Although with my luck, it won't happen once while I actually have the thing on. |

| I work in ICU so all our patients wear them. We do have some patients that have extremely dry skin or sweat or other reasons that their skin is not the best for the situation. We would clean with alcohol most of time. Make sure you don't have a lot of peach fuzz or fine hair where the electrodes are placed. Also, if you try those and still not better there is a stuff called skin prep that preps the skin for better application but probably have to get it from dr. Honestly, patients that sweat period we cannot usually get a good application. |

Location: Texas | The alcohol should help. When I had to wear mine I put medical tape over the electrode to help secure it. I'm helped some. Riding is a pain but it can be done. I would wrap vet wrap around it and my body that help secure it and keep it from bouncing |

I tried the alcohol last night when I changed them out. It seemed to help some. Three out of the four are still sticking really well at least. Guess I'll just have to see about getting extra electrodes cause there's no way I can just sit and do nothing for the next month. Not to mention we're supposed to be getting some hot weather here and I'll probably be swearing just sitting doing nothing. Haha! |

Oooh! Vet wrap is a good idea! Lol I'm going to give that a try! Haha. I'm running to town tomorrow so I'll grab some medical tape too. Hopefully it will help enough that I can maybe make the electrodes last a little longer. |

I never thought of deodorant. Thanks! I'm really not sure what they're thinking. Although this morning I was moving hay and cleaned stalls and when I came home, about a half hour later my phone rang. It was my doctor and she said that the company watching my monitor called her because they had noticed that I had two episodes this morning where my heart rate spiked to 160 beats/minute. I told her that I had been moving hay and all but she seemed really concerned about it. Shes referring me to a cardiologist. :/ |
