I have a 14 year old mare who got pretty bad out of shape during the college semester.
I've been working her and getting her back in shape but she gets really sore and cranky (my 7 year old doesn't have this problem, just her)
She does require injections in her hocks and we are getting her done early next week but I doubt that'll fix any muscle soreness.
How can I minimize her soreness? Are there any supplements I can feed to help? I rode with a girl who swore by MSM for soreness, would that help?
TIA, I've just never had a horse who got sore like this.

The hock injections may help more than your anticipating. But, for my horses that have body soreness issues I've had really good luck with Animal element Detox, regular chiro and PHT magnets.

I'd think the hock injections are going to do the most as well. I'm in the process of getting my mare back in shape, but I think her biggest oomph will come from injections. My mare gets really tight in her back legs, so I massage them and make sure to stretch her out really well before and after a ride. Cold hosing, and a liniment brace as well after a ride.

Chiro & accupuncture!  She might be out and having to over compensate in other areas and making herself sore.   I'd do that and then let her have some time in a BOT sheet.

My horses get regular Massage therapy, Chiro 2x a year, PHT and Sore no more rub downs. If you dont use magnetic products you can use a "stronger" lineament like Vetroline.. etc. I find they work better, but cause chemical burns when put under BOT/PHT products. So avoid that (lol)

I also believe you should try a supplement called : Total Blood Fluids Muscle.
Total Blood Fluids Muscle was developed to replenish the vital nutrients lost during stress and exercise. Fortified with essential B vitamins, minerals, and iron to help increase oxygen-carrying ability and red blood cell count. Contains branched-chain amino acids to aid muscle tissue repair, as well as electrolytes to replenish the daily loss of minerals. Hence, Cutting recovery time and helping with muscle fatigue.

Animal Element Foundation Detox helps with soreness. If it is possibly ovaries then I would also suggest Raspberry Leaf. Ovaries will cause back soreness.

Get her hocks done, maybe try to find a good chiro/massage, and then just bring her back slowly. Some horses can handle more than others in terms of coming back. I have a gelding that can be off for awhile and he does really well coming back, while my mare I have to bring back slow or she will start to get sore. She's not as naturally collected and properly moving as the gelding is, so I have to slowly strengthen certain muscles before I start asking her to put everything together.
