I hate having to dicker on price. Put the price tag on it, if it is worth it to me I'll buy it. If I think it is too high I'll pass. But I know there is the group of people that "need" a deal on everything. But wouldn't it be so much simpler if the price was the price...take it or leave it.

I have NEVER "dickered" on the price of a horse I was interested in. I either pay the asking price, or I move on. And when I price one, THAT is how much it will take to get the horse bought.

I don't sell that often, so I'm usually guessing at what a horse will be worth. Being a guess, I will pad the price a little. If it was too cheap, the horse will sell for asking quickly. Too much, and I can read between the lines and adjust. That also gives me room to negotiate for the right home or refuse to negotiate with what I think is a bad fit. If I'm certain of a horse's value, I will price them FIRM and wait it out.

I'm not actively looking to purchase a horse right now, but I always browse the ads on here....and it seems like people seem to put wiggle room into their ads here. I've seen not one but TWO horses today that are for sale and with a short amount of googling or more investigation to the ad the prices are posted for lower amounts on other websites.... Just my PSA for the day... Do your research if you really like the horse and think he/she might be out of your budget.
I have found the same. When I was shopping for a finished horse a few years ago I was shocked how many horses I found listed on multiple sites with different prices. Same horse, same picture, different price.
Ive noticed this also. I just put an offer on a prospect, priced different on multiple sites. She was very gracious and look the lower amount because she wanted him to go to a good home. I just said, I can afford one price... but not the other. They were fairly far apart. Several ads were older and didnt reflect the training he's had.

If it is worth it I will pay asking price but if I feel like it is priced more than it's worth I will try to work on the price.

Generally $500 but right now I have one standing in the pasture I want off my feed bill so I would budge a little more on him.
