That's what I prefer. I have a 16 hand one right now. He's very smooth and athletic. Love him!

Both of mine are 16.0 or more and they are both super athletics and their stride is amazing. I look silly on little horses as I am 5'9 and all legs. I have run smaller horses but just prefer the bigger ones. If horse is athletic that all that matters to me

I have always prefered them 16.2 or bigger.

I love my 16 hand, 1300lbs mare. She's a 2D/3D horse most days, but she's also an awesome all around show horse. I'm 5'10, so I hate those little crotch rockets. I'm riding a 3yo colt right now, who is MAYBE 14.2 hands. Talk about uncomfortable! My feet can't even reach his sides. haha

I love bigger horses. The two mares I run now are 15.2-15.3. My yearling firewater ta fame string tests to 16.2. I don't think they are at a disadvantage at all. Barrel horses can win in all shapes and sizes.

My biggest one right now is 16 hands on the nose and he can clock a lot better than a little horse with the same mistakes. He has struggled to figure out how to use his body efficiently in a turn and I definitely struggle to get on him without destroying my pants! I love my Streak but more often than not, I run him in stretchy pants instead of jeans. LOL.

I love a big horse! I have an amazing little mare that is between 14.2-14.3, she's been a ton of fun but she's not the norm for me. My mare I used to run was 15.3 and I have a broodmare that's 16.1, what I would give to have been able to run her. I'm hoping her filly from last year is as big as she is. :)

I have a friend that has a daughter of A Classic Dash, that mare is every bit of 17.1, she will burn up a set of barrels but she's crazy huge!

As a youngster yes, but as an old lady, no thanks. My 14 2 hand mare is so much easier on my body than my 15 2 gelding is.

The horse in my avatar is 16-1. He is Res champion pole horse 2013. My three year old is 16 hands and handles herself very well. If a tall horse is athletic, I don't think it makes much difference.
