| Has anyone ever used this...... Al Dunning Yo-Yo Headsetter By Schutz Brothers I have a gelding that I run and he needs something to help set his head around the barrels, but when I use a tie down if it catches him just right he will pause on the back side of the barrel...... suggestions??? |

| yes! Clips on the bit and is bungy
Here is the description.... Harness leather with bronze hardware, bungee cord center and sliding nylon rope with snap ends. When the headsetter is adjusted to the desired headset, the horse feels resistance when their head raises and will be rewarded when the head is returned to the desired level. - |

Location: CTX | Yup, I use a similair thing (homemade). The cord attached to the bit rings is the bungee cord and that is attached to piece of tiedown attached tot the girth. I had some issues with me holding him back on the backside, so I made my reins longer and used this in stead of a german martingale. It works directly on the bit, but I don't have any control over it. So as soon as he puts his head down he has immediat relief. I only used it in a run, not when riding at home, but I decided yesterday the next run will be without to see if we still need it. I don't intent to use it the rest off our lives.... just a little reminder for him not to stick his face in the air.... |

Location: Texas | That looks interesting. I am currently running with a german martingale. Wonder if this would be similar. |

I tried a tiedown, but didn't like his reaction to it. And I like how the bungee will give him a reminder, but he can't "hang" in it.
Of course you can make it really short and then the bungee will do nothing... it'll be too thight... but that is not the idea behind it. |

| Well I ordered one..... might not be here in time for my next rodeo, but thought might as well give it a try. I have seen homemade things that people use but I am not that handy or creative to make one so started googling. My horse does better with a tie down but then will pause so hopefully this will "fix" that problem. I have practiced at home in a german martingale and that works good, but never thought about runnig him in one! |

Location: North Dakota | It looks like the effect is somewhat similar to a german martingale. Definitely would NOT use this with anything other than a smooth mouthed snaffle. I don't know that I would run barrels in it but you could *try*. The one thing that concerns me is if he throws his head up pretty hard, he is going to get whacked in the mouth and that might also cause him to pause. |
