My mare stocked up really bad in three of her legs on Saturday. she is not stalled.  BOT didnt help nor did cold hosing.  She is also lathargic but getting better. We are suspecting a reaction to the fresh hay (allergies) and so i poulitced her and gave meds (antibiotis per the vey and bute) and she seems to be getting better.  Any one have other ideas?  I heard this happening if they are not digesting protien properly, as well.  I have not changed her feed in 7 months. the only change is fresh cut hay.

Have you seen this as a result of kidney issues?

I had a horse that did this, hosing didn't help either. It turned out he had some sort of internal infection and antibiotics cleared it right up (after I lost my entry to the OKC Shoot Out)! I never did figure why he got the infection.

Ditto this. You just need to feed the entire bag and then quit. I dosed my horse and he quit stocking up when he was stalled which is the only time he was stocking up but he quit doing it. Which makes me want to go see him again because now he is stalled and he started stocking up again.

How big of a bag did you feed? How often/close to a show? I only stall maybe three times a year but mine definitely does stock up when he gets stalled. Was wondering how those that used the SLH Kidney stuff used it.

Are you sure it is just stocking up or is it something more serious like cellulitis?  Does the swelling/edema pit if you push on it?

Check your hay for Hoary Alyssum. It is a nasty weed that can cause stocking up, founder, and life long issues. This is what it looks like when found in hay.

I'd just do like the 30 day bag. It's been a while but I think that was it. I should dose again--it's been awhile.

Totally agree with this. Heather- this is how I lost Drift two years ago. It is all over up here. Check your hay.

No problem! It is nasty stuff and it starting to really take over around us so I am always on the lookout for it and for symptoms in horses. It has taken over our alfalfa field so the last few nights my husband and I have spent hours out there pulling that crap up. It is so frustrating. It is starting to take over the ditches too which luckily can be sprayed unlike the alfalfa. I think the county should have to pay for that since it is a noxious weed in the ditches but whatever if we have to spray to keep it clean around here then I guess that is what we will do. I am just waiting for it to pop up in our pastures but like I said at least it can be sprayed in the grass.
