Location: Arkansas | I'm finally done planning a wedding and am back to reality as a married woman now! Yay! Unfortunately, my horse has the physique of an over due pregnant mare with a large gut! He has already been cut back from his feed to help shed some pounds, but what type of exercises have y'all found to be beneficial to shed a grass belly and get one in shape? He has some muscle tone still, but that belly though lol I've been long trotting and loping some. Just trying not to push too hard at first, but he needs a boot camp lol! |

| Long trotting and long trotting and more long trotting are the best ways to shed pounds and tone back up muscle. Mine get lazy and bored long trotting around the arena, and so do I, so I try to find safe trails that I know, and long trot out on the trails.

| If the horse has joint issues have him vetted before you start getting him in shape. Put the horse in a dry lot with limited hay and feed and this will get that but off in a hurry. |

I've been talking to my vet so that's being addressed! It's sad when you have to dry lot your barrel horse like a pen of bulldogging steers lol |

| I have my old gelding (Probably the easiest kept 25 year old ever) in a grazing muzzle for 3 weeks, he will drop all his extra weight, I'll take it off for 2 weeks or until he starts looking prego again and then I'll put the muzzle back on. |

Oh I hadn't thought about that!!! With how accident prone my guy is, idk if he would last a day without hurting himself! I may try that though! |

Agree, send him to a swim farm for 30-45 days and he'll come back ready for concussive conditioning. You should be able to lope a pattern and not have the saddle roll. Another 15-30 days of land work and then go with him. |

Location: Arkansas | I sure wish we had somewhere to swim close by! If I hit the lottery right, I'll definitely build one then! Lol |
