I decided that going to school in TN was where i wanted to be after living on long island, ny my entire life. I packed up my stuff moved to Northwest TN. Loved it there, had my own apt, my horses and a bf. Got to see east of Mississippi river including ill due to a bf that was a truck driver. Ended up coming back after a year because my mom needed me after my dad died. Now we are going to NC in 2 weeks to look at houses. Thats where i want to be.

Although some night i just want to load the horses and dog and be gone. Get away from the stress for a while.

I'm originally from Jackson, TN. Went to college at UT Martin. That area will airways be "home". But I've also lived in Iowa (no thank you wintertime) & now in Oklahoma since 2001. Love it here and haven't ever regretting moving here. The only downside is my daughter is far away from grandparents but it's nothing a trip down I40 east can't cure.

Thats actually where i went was UT Martin. Loved it there! Had a huge shock the first time the tornado sirens went off. Never heard them before.

I had a scholarship offer to UT-Martin... chickened out. I often wonder where I woud be now.

Dont get me wrong, I have a fantastic job now but I think life could have been much different.

I grew up in southern Minnesota, moved to Minneapolis for a year and did not like it. Moved to River Falls, WI for collage-went to Wyoming for two summers and now my husband and I live in NC.

I really enjoyed every stage of life. I would have to say Jackson Hole, Wy was my favorite! NC isn't too bad!

Made the move to Oklahoma from Minnesota 2 weeks after I graduated college (been here 3 years now). I had never really been away from home, so the first year was realllllly tough! But now, I LOVE it. I don't see myself ever moving back north again. It is very hard being so far from family though. I was told when you make a big move, it takes a year to settle in, and 2 years to fall in love with the place....that was right on for me!

If my husband gave the ok, we would be packed up and in OK in a week lol. I went to stay with my Aunt for a week a couple of years ago, she lived near Texoma. I LOVED it. The day I got back I told my husband that is where I wanted to live. I'm still working on him. He wants to move to the mountains... I do not. I joke that we are forever stuck in this horrible dry windy town. :( Which it probably isn't much of a joke. He has an amazing job and we just started a business.

I moved about three hours away for school (where I'm at now and I'm going into my senior year). It doesn't seem that far and I have my grandparents about 30 min away but I'm so happy I got my own apartment this year, I'm glad my previous boyfriend had dumped me (who I was mopey about last fall on here), and that I went out and started hanging out with my friends more, working two jobs, meeting my new great boyfriend, getting back into horses and riding, and simply just doing things for ME. I lived where my grandparents lived for about 3 years when I was little (I've moved around 17 times) so things are somewhat familiar in some places but it still was a big change for me and I really like it up here. I agree that everyone should step outside of their comfort zone. I say do it and the opportunities are endless! I live in northern WV and go to WVU. I'm not sure where you'd like to go but good luck!!

Howdy neighbor! Grew-up in northern WV and now live just across the river in Ohio. What part of nothern WV are you from?

Hello there!! I'm living in Morgantown for school but I used to live in Preston County in Bruceton Mills, where my grandparents live! My boyfriend's also from Terra Alta near Oakland, MD. I lived in Mason/Jackson County in Evans, Kenna, and Sandyville for about 6 years before I moved here for college. We were close to Point Pleasant and Gallipolis, Ohio at one point! Where in WV did you grow up in? And where at in Ohio?

from Iowa to Maryland. Best decision I've ever made! Now we are excitedly planning (in our 10 year plan) a move to Florida!! :)

Especially from being in a community with a small town mentality. Everyone, and I mean everyone, has that, "I just can't wait to leave here." "I hate this place" etc. So when I finally go and move everyone including the majority of my friends hated me for it, and most still do. The ones that left and moved on to do bigger and better things and experience the whole world are the most sound of mind individuals I've ever met! It's for the better and you find out who your real friends are, and if it doesn't work out... what is the worst that will happen? You move back home?

I got married and moved to Nigeria. Lived there for a year and half. Other than the fact that I nearly died from food poisoning, I really loved it over there. (NO medical facilities) The temperature was wonderful around 90. Food as we know it was a little hard to get. We moved to Saudi Arabia and were there for 6 months. That was different, I hated it. 115 everyday. Since you could not buy any kind of alcohol over there and our oilfield family enjoyed a relaxing drink on a regular basis, someone had to make it. Since I was the best cook over there I was put in charge of the still. I keep it running pretty well on a daily basis. That was very educational. I made a lot of booze. Our freezer was full of uncut whiskey. (it is very volatile) A war broke out over there and I came home. I live on the same road that I grew up on now.

I can't say that I have moved around a lot but I have traveled some. I have to say there is something about West Virginia that I just LOVE, especially the southern part of the state. We moved across the river to Ohio about 12 years ago, and I can literally be back in WV in about an 1/2 hour, but it is not the same as living there. I know WV is the butt of many jokes but it is beautiful and there is a special pride about being from the mountains. I have talked to many people that feel the same as I do.

I moved from Northeastern Oklahoma to North Texas. About a 6 hour drive.
Wouldn't change it for the world.

Went from a small town of 2,500 to what I would consider a large city of 25,000. I love it. It's just big enough to keep things interesting, just small enough to feel safe in, and close enough to the actual city to go out and have fun in.

Line up a great job, and move. It's hard and lonely when you first move, but it's well worth it.

I think we all get that "itch" every now and again. I've been here almost 7 years. I'm starting to get the itch again and it's starting to rub off on my SO. Who knows, we both may decide to pack up and move. Or we may wait until the girls are grown. Never know.

The thing that finally got me to move was the few thoughts I had of: I can always go home. I can always go to a friend's house/couch. I will never be homeless or hungry. I can do this.

Keep us updated.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. It was fun to read all the different stories where everyone went to and some went back to. I'm thinking about South Dakota. We shall see. Thanks everyone!

I think half of my and my future husband's paychecks went to Cadillac's. That was a great college and great town. My husband was on the college Rodeo team and still tries to go back for Rodeo week every few years. Love UTM!
