If you saw my other thread, my Meleta Brown fits Cash pretty well but does NOT fit me. I'm sucking it up for right now, but I can't go very fast in it and it hurts my nethers. Meleta DID inform me that within the next couple months her saddles should start going into production again so I could get a seat that fits me, but there's a new girl at my barn that has a Crown C with an 8" gullet. I got her permission to put it on him and take pictures. He definitely needs some more muscle in his topline. Right now without any shims, the saddle is a little wide and the MB fits better, BUT felt wonderful with 2 of those thin quilted leg wraps folded in 3rds under the front of the saddle (with no pad). Then I put my 3/4" Classicc Equine pad with one of the quilted wraps folded in 3rds under the saddle and I swear I heard cherubs whisper "this is the one" in my ear. It felt *perfect*. 100% even and could not have improved in any way. It felt even better than the Meleta, I must say. I just want to show the pics to make sure I did this right, and to get some more opinions. There's a lot of pics, so I'll just link to my FB album with all the pictures in it (just scroll past the palomino. All the pictures of Cash are from today.)

From what I seen in the pictures, I may try and move the saddle back another 1/4 of an inch as the saddle is supposed to go behind the shoulder

He has some atrophy in the wither area so sadly the 8 gullet may only get you 6 months before you need to go bigger. I don't suggest going bigger yet as too big will dump down on the front end.

Do you feel even pressure all the way? If so the saddle fits.

I also suggest making a barrel run in it, if it is too wide or the horse needs a flat tree you will feel thrown forward.

You can message me questions if you want

With the shim in place, the saddle pressure was perfect. Or, as close as you can get anyway. One thing I've noticed in my Meleta these last few times I've ridden in it is that it slides forward just a hair onto his shoulders more than I like, and more than where Meleta said it should be positioned. So I'm excited to see this one fit so well. I can't ride in this saddle bc it is an inch and a half too small so I'll feel thrown forward no matter what. I know he's atrophied--believe it or not this is a HUGE improvement from a few months ago (layed up due to illness and injury). He's gotten a lot of muscle back and hopefully will grow a lot more! I'm ok with trying to find used ones and size up as needed until he gets to where he needs to be.

On Facebook there is a Martin crown c new and used saddles for sale page, not 100% sure the name, the last time I looked on the site, used prices have actually become realistic.

If you are willing to go through a few saddles, then I wouldn't suggest the demo program from Martin yet.

If you get the seat size you want and still feel like you are getting thrown forward try and find a fx with the same gullet that you need as these saddles have the same tree options, fit the horse the same, but put the rider more on their bum rather then on their crotch

Ooh! I'll go try and find it! If I could find someone to trade with me that would be perfect. If I can get used ones I have no problem trading around until he gets to where he needs to be, then I'll focus on buying a new one with all the specs I want.
