| Don't know why I did not think of this. I do have an excuse --- I'm blonde. Have that mare caslicked. I think you will notice a big difference. I had my three year old caslicked a year ago before she went to the trainer. She was sucking air and I felt that it was necessary. A lot of racing trainers do this. It is certainly worth a try. Cheap and does not have to be repeated. |

All the mares we have get one as long yearlings. All mares at the track get them. When a mare runs, she can suck air and it can cause a lot of problems. Dr Moak, who works mainly at the track, told me once that it was just stupid not to get them done on a barrel horse due to the high rate of speed and the way they split the back legs in a turn. The vet trims the edge of the vulva and then sutures it together. They leave the bottom open so the made can urinate but close up the upper 2/3. |

Yes he does. He's at Arapahoe Park right now. When he's not there, you usually have to go to Estes Park to meet him. Unless you find someone that's scheduled him all day down on the front range. At the track he just meets you in the gravel parking lot above the barns. He'd be a good one to look at that sorrel mare. She looked off in the hind end to me last time I saw her. Moak is also one of the few vets here in CO that I'd trust to do whorl bones and that might be your issue. |

Location: NE Texas | It is a real thing. Glad to hear you're using Moak too...i've heard some pretty great things about him from my good friend in Cheyenne who's bought several horses from me. Be sure they flush the mare before putting casliks in to ensure no bacteria is closed up in there. This will just help ensure that there is no bacteria that CAN get in there and cause any "female" problems in the future. |
