Veteran Posts: 158 Location: Pa	Anybody have any information on this? I have done the search on it and believe it is comparable to Adequan and Pentosan, just wondering if anyone has used it and what was your experience.

Expert Posts: 5290	Not even the Same thing. Equioxx is an anti inflammatory and pain Drug. Similar to bute and banamine but a cox 2 inhibitor. Just FYI the dog version is previcox and do a search for that on here. Plenty of reading. It's significantly cheaper. Adequan , pentosan, etc are injectible drugs used to maintain joint health.

A friend of mine wanted to start her horse on Adequan as a preventative and the vet's office suggested that. After looking it up, I thought it would be the wrong thing, but like I said, wanted to check with the board.

Expert Posts: 5290	If the horse already has chronic pain issues then previcox might be needed. Adequan is excellent for preventative.

Adequan would be her best bet to maintain. My mare gets a quarter tab of Previcox a day during the busy hauling season since she has some bone formation on the toe of her coffin bone due to bad farrier work before I got her and her hocks are also in the process of fusing so I just use a quarter tab (57mg) of Previcox just to make sure she stays feeling good and happy.
