I have to board my horse, and I understand there are some conditions that are just unavoidable in this situation. At this barn, my mare is stalled from about 3 pm until about 9 or 10 am each day, and them turned out in a pasture. She has come down with white line and a small bit of thrush. Fine. It happens, although I have fortunately never experienced it myself until now. When I told my barn owner what was going on, and that I needed the stall that she stands in for 14-16 hours a day to be stripped down and bleached, she. had. a. fit. And the thing is, I said I'd do it myself. I did ask if she would have the boys leave out the tools and some replacement shavings. But when she freaked, I said I'd buy the shavings. And she's still having a cow about it. She claims that she consulted with her vet and her farrier and both said that such measures were superfluous (mind you this is the same expert farrier who left my mare's toes long so that she started knocking and stepping toe first). How is her standing in a contaminated stall all night a good idea to them? It will just negate all the doctoring I do during the day, and it will take longer to heal. I don't understand why she is freaking out, if I'M doing all the work and footing the shavings bill? She additionally informed me that every year she has multiple cases of white line, and they all resolve eventually without stripping the stall, so I shouldn't bother. Sorry, ...what? And you're fine with this??

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? Am I crazy for wanting a disinfected stall?
