i have been so quite on here lately because my mare has been going just wonderful!! well NOT TODAY!! im freaking out! my perfect mare who never kicks out apparently kicked out and got her leg between some wooden slats and scraped up her self pretty darn good. were the gluteal muscle meets the gaskin is extremely hot and swollen .. along with her gaskin hock and fetlock :( when I pulled her out of her stall she was stiff and when lunged to assess the situation she was pretty darn lame. cold hosed and rubbed with liniment and swelling went down about 40-50 % and has remained down. lameness also significantly disappeared observing her trotting a few hours later, turning and stopping are still painful. cold hosed and wrapped right before bed. im terrified of her forming fibrotic myopathy (dealt with before on a different animal} someone encourage me before I jump off a bridge.

Wow- that's a bummer!  And you are 100% correct about fearing fibrotic myopathy formation, that is the prime location for it.  It takes 4-6 weeks for the body to solidly lay down scar tissue in the damaged area.  What I would do, if I were you, would be to treat that area with microcurrent every day for that 4-6 weeks.  Microcurrent has been proven to actually force the scar tissue to form in an orderly manner, not just the haphazzard wad that it usually does, (which creates the fibrotic myopathy).  Some would say magnets and lasers can help to, but I have more faith in microcurrent, the cells will actually follow the direct positive to negative current and create tissue that is closer to what it used to be.  Good luck!!
